    • An apparatus and method for intraoperative internal placement of an afterloading catheter tube grid for post-operative radiotherapy using a semi-rigid tube having inserted within a plurality of catheters which extends outwardly from the distal end of the semi-rigid tube for a predetermined distance and attaching these distally outward extending catheter tubes to a soft sheet so that the catheter tube maintain a parallel position to one another over the predetermined distance. The proximal ends of these catheter tubes extend outwardly from the proximal end of the semi-rigid tube and are located on the outside of the body. These proximal ends of the catheters are left open for loading of the radioactive material into these catheter tubes, while the distal ends are closed to prevent airleak and to stop the radioactive material. The soft sheet is provided with eyelets at each of the four corners, and these eyelets are used to secure the soft sheet with sutures to the inside of the cavity wall over the area intended for radiation therapy. A stiff cover cap is provided so as to cover the furled soft sheet, and this cover cap attaches to the distal end of the semi-rigid tube. This cover cap is removed when the present invention is inserted into the body cavity.

    • A portable latching switch which has a switch body containing three cavities. An elongated cavity extends into the switch body for receiving an actuating member. The second and third cavities communicate with and extend transversely from the elongated cavity and contain latching members. An electrical switching member is responsive to movement of the latching member located in the second cavity. A locking member is contained in the third cavity whereby upon actuation of the electronic device a key is required for resetting of the latching member in the third cavity and subsequently of the actuating member.

    • The subject invention is directed in general to a method of preparing an antigen using immunoabsorbent affinity chromotography particularly in cases where an antigen is used for the recognition and measurement of hypersensitivity and where antigenic specificity is desired as, for example, in hypersensitivity to tuberculin, histoplasmin, coccidioidin, and common inhalant allergens. More particularly, this invention consists of a method which includes the following steps: immunizing a suitable host animal, usually a goat, with a preparation containing the desired antigen, collecting antisera from the animal and selecting the most specific antisera; isolating the antibody containing gamma globulin from the selected antiserum; coupling the globulin to an inert substrate (usually agarose beads) by chemical bonding with cyanogen bromide to form an absorbent in which the antibody acts as ligand; using the absorbent to bind selectively the desired antigen in a crude mixture containing the antigen; eluting the antigen from the absorbent by breaking the antigen-antibody bond with urea, usually at 4 - 6 molar (also referred to as M in the specification) and about pH 7 - 9; and then recovering the eluted antigen and preparing it in a form suitable for its intended use. By this method a highly purified, improved tuberculin skin test reactant is produced from culture filtrate which is prepared by growing tubercle bacilli in a liquid, synthetic medium, collecting and sterilizing by filtration the liquid phase of this culture (alternatively a soluble extract of the bacillary mass may be used), and then processing this filtrate and purifying the antigen by the steps described.
