摘要： Methods and systems for controlling a pneumatic starter air valve of a gas turbine engine are described herein. The starter air valve is controlled in a first mode of operation by actuating a first solenoid of the starter air valve with a steady-state input signal. Passage of the steady-state input signal to a second solenoid of the starter air valve is allowed, to actuate the second solenoid and enable pressure regulation of the starter air valve. The starter air valve is controlled in a second mode of operation by actuating the first solenoid with a pulse-width modulation input signal. Passage of the pulse-width modulation input signal to the second solenoid is prevented, to disable the pressure regulation in the second mode of operation.

摘要： A fuel atomizer that includes a housing having a fuel inlet and at least one primary orifice positioned at the inlet, wherein the at least one orifice configured to disperse a stream of fuel into a plurality of fuel droplets. The plurality of fuel droplets contact a fuel impingement surface to break up the plurality of fuel droplets into a plurality of smaller secondary droplets and create a thin film of secondary droplets on the impingement surface. At least one pressurized air channel delivers an airflow into contact with the secondary droplets. The secondary droplets pass through a plurality of secondary outlet orifices to exit the housing. A size of the plurality of secondary droplets is reduced when passing out of the plurality of secondary orifices.

摘要： One strategy for reducing undesirable emissions from internal combustion engines relates to finding ways to better mix fuel and air prior to combustion. One such method is commonly referred to as homogenous charge compression ignition (HCCI); however, that strategy is problematic in both controlling ignition timing and avoiding overstressing the engine at higher speeds and loads. The present invention addresses these issues by mixing air and fuel vapor within an injector instead of within the engine cylinder. The air/fuel mixture is then injected into the engine cylinder at some desired timing and over some desired duration. Such a strategy permits for lower emissions due to better mixing of air and fuel, while also permitting control over some aspects of combustion timing and duration not apparently possible with a conventional HCCI strategy. The present invention is generally applicable to all internal combustion engines, but especially applicable to diesel engines.

摘要： An effervescent fuel injector, particularly one suitable for diesel and direct injection engine applications, which is capable of injecting, particularly intermittently, an atomized fuel spray with droplets of a size in the range of 5-6 micron SMD without requiring high pressures is achieved in a preferred embodiment effervescent fuel injector of the valve covered orifice (VCO) type having primary and secondary nozzle valves which remain closed when the control valve is not actuated, but which open one or two sets of nozzle orifices depending on fuel volume requirements. A three-way, on-off control valve is used to trigger commencement of the supply of gas via a control valve simultaneously with opening of at least some of the nozzle orifices. Gas and fuel are mixed in a mixing chamber located upstream of the nozzle valves in a manner creating a gas-fuel aeration, and as the aeration is sprayed from the nozzle orifices, the gas expands rapidly breaking the fuel into fine droplets.
