    • A dot line printer having ink ribbon guides for stabilizing running performance of an ink ribbon. A dot line printer includes a hammer bank, a shuttle mechanism, a platen and ink ribbon guides. The hammer bank has print hammers for forming a plurality of dot impressions. The shuttle mechanism has one side positioned adjacent to one end of the hammer bank for reciprocally moving the hammer bank. The platen is adapted for bearing dot impression force, and a part of the ink ribbon is positioned at an ink ribbon path extending along the platen. The ribbon guides have a first guide positioned adjacent to another end of the hammer bank, and a second guide positioned adjacent to another side of the shuttle mechanism. The ink ribbon guides guide travel of the ink ribbon at the ink ribbon path. The ribbon guides further include a third ink ribbon guide positioned between the hammer bank and the shuttle mechanism for further guiding travel of the ink ribbon at the ink ribbon path.

    • A printing device having a document feed path defined therein and a platen fixedly mounted adjacent the feed path, the platen having a plurality of character segments formed thereon. A plurality of impact members, there being at least one thereof for each character segment, are also positioned adjacent the document feed path and positioned thereat so that one of said impact members will strike one of the character segments. A spool-to-spool ribbon drive is adapted to position a print ribbon between the platen and the document in the feed path therefor and causes printing of each character segment where it is struck by an impact member. A document feed assembly is provided for moving each document along the feed path. Also provided is a control assembly operatively coupled between the document feed assembly and the impact members for selectively operating individual ones of the impact members in timed relationship to the motion of a document along the feed path to effect printing of selectable combinations of the character segments on the document.

    • In the printer, each printing hammer is composed of a pair of electroconductive elastic members arranged parallel to the axis of a type drum and is provided with paramagnetic material at its head. The hammer, when not used, is kept pulled in the non-printing position with the paramagnetic material attracted by a permanent magnet to accumulate mechanical energy in the elastic members. When the accumulated energy is discharged by an electromagnet provided at each hammer head including the paramagnetic material, printing operation is executed. Finishing the printing operation, the hammers return quickly to their home positions by the permanent magnet attraction force. A type drum and hammer heads are composed of an organic resilient substance.

    • A printer mechanism is provided for adjusting the position of hammers when the relative distance between a type character and a print hammer is changed. The mechanism comprises a plurality of hammers driven toward a series of type characters which are continuously carried along the printing line to print characters on a record sheet interposed between said print hammers and type characters. The mechanism is designed such that said print hammers are shifted in the printing line so that the positions of respective hammers may be adjusted and correct printing is accomplished.
