    • A unique method and apparatus for suppressing the spread of and extinguishing fires in confined areas such as underground tunnels and conduits. The new method includes mixing a super absorbent polymer supplied from a backpack, in one embodiment, with water to form a hydrated super absorbent polymer and applying this admixture to an electrical fire. The super absorbent polymer can be contained in a backpack. The admixture has the ability to cling to the object(s) to which it has been applied and either cool down the object(s) after it is on fire, or block the fire from reaching the object. The super absorbent polymer and water admixture also encapsulates the noxious and toxic gases and prevents the release of these toxic gases into the atmosphere. The super absorbent polymer and water admixture retains the ash, particulates, and other byproducts of the electrical fire to enable a rapid and thorough cleanup.

In one embodiment, the fire extinguisher, which is portable, includes a press-source fluid container capable of retaining compressed air; extinguishant containers capable of retaining extinguishant; a pressure-source fluid tube connected to the pressure-source fluid container and the extinguishant containers, for leading the compressed air retained in the pressure-source container to the extinguishant containers; a pressure reducing valve intervening in the pressure-source fluid tube, for reducing pressure of the compressed air flowing down the pressure-source fluid tube; discharge device capable of discharging the extinguishant retained in the extinguishant containers; and an extinguishant tube connected to the extinguishant containers and the discharge device, for leading the extinguishant retained in the extinguishant containers to the discharge device.

    • This disclosure relates to a portable kit for use in fighting fires, and includes a portable tank forming a reservoir for a liquid additive. A handle extends adjacent an upper side of the tank and is fastened to the tank, the tank and the reservoir being sized to be carried by a person holding said handle. At least one accessory is provided and the tank has at least one storage recess formed in its outer surface, the recess being shaped to receive and store the accessory. A liquid flow passage having an inlet end coupling and an outlet end coupling is also fastened to the tank, and the flow path may be formed through the handle. The inlet end coupling is connectable to a supply of liquid under pressure, and the outlet end coupling and the accessory are shaped to be coupled together.

    • A foam delivery system which may be worn by a fire fighter is disclosed which comprises a foam containing vest formed of two components filled with foam concentrate in fluid communication with a foam aspirating spray nozzle. The front portion of the vest is provided with adjustable connectors or buckles so that the foam vest may adjusted to fit the fire fighter. A connector hose permits fluid communication between the two vest components. The vest components include vertically extending chambers which open to a bottom fluid chamber. The vest is provided with a fill port and a vent opening permitting the foam concentrate to be evenly distributed throughout the foam vest. A valve and hose arrangement connect the vest to the spray nozzle which is connected to a water hose. The spray nozzle includes a venturi nozzle for developing a low pressure zone within the spray nozzle for aspirating foam concentrate into the water stream.
