    • Method, arrangement and computer program product in a base station for transmitting two USF values and two data blocks to a terminal. The base station and the terminal are comprised within a wireless communication network. The two USF values are to be sent across the first data block and the second data block. The first data block and first parts of the two USF values are modulated with a first modulation technique and the second data block and second parts of the two USF values are modulated with a second modulation technique. The modulated data blocks and USF parts are transmitted to the terminal. Further, a method, an arrangement and a computer program product in a terminal for receiving USF values and data blocks from a base station are described.     • An arrangement for detecting the degradation of a received PCM signal before it becomes bad enough to cause serious errors. Ancillary threshold detectors operate at levels on either side of the basic threshold. A falling signal level or rising noise level causes a received pulse to fall in the range between the ancillary levels, producing a warning signal to indicate a degraded signal. As described, the warning signals are integrated over a period of time to produce a time average. The arrangement is useful in repeaters of a radio relay system.

    • A method of inductive coupled communications includes providing a first resonant tank (first tank) and a second resonant tank (second tank) tuned to essentially the same resonant frequency, each having antenna coils and switches positioned for changing a Q and a bandwidth of their tank. The antenna coils are separated by a distance that provides near-field communications. The first tank is driven to for generating induced oscillations to transmit a predetermined number of carrier frequency cycles providing data. After the predetermined number of cycles, a switch is activated for widening the bandwidth of the first tank. Responsive to the oscillations in the first tank, the second tank begins induced oscillations. Upon detecting a bit associated with the induced oscillations, a switch is activated for widening the bandwidth of the second tank and a receiver circuit receiving an output of the second tank is reset.

    • A method and apparatus for providing an asymmetrical backwards compatible communications signal that is capable of being decoded by QPSK and OQPSK receivers as well as PSK and QAM receivers is provided. The invention comprises a timing error accumulator coupled to a first bit stream. The first bit stream includes content that is common to the QPSK/OQPSK receiver and to the PSK/QAM receiver. A phase error accumulator is coupled to a second bit stream and adjusts the phase of symbols in the second bit stream. A phase and timing error compensator is coupled to the phase error accumulator and the timing error accumulator and adjusts the first and second bit streams received from the phase error accumulator and the timing error accumulator in order to reduce timing and phase errors. A higher order modulator coupled to the phase- and timing error compensator is also provided. The higher order modulator processes the first and second bit streams to provide the asymmetrical backwards compatible signal.
