    • A radio controllable clock includes an analog display having a plurality of clock hands each fastened to a uniquely associated one of a plurality of clock hand shafts that each rotate about a common axis. The clock also includes a plurality of rotary gears each uniquely associated with one of the clock hand shafts, for rotating the clock hand shafts. Each rotary gear has a face perpendicular to the common axis, wherein each of the rotary gears includes a protrusion extending substantially perpendicular from the face. A microcontroller provides a plurality of drive command signals and the rotary gears are driven responsive to the drive command signals. A reset claw is operably positioned to engage at least one of the protrusions to stop the rotation of the clock hand shaft associated with the protrusion in order to position the clock hand associated with the protrusion at a datum position.

    • When power is applied to a digital clock, the counters therein can assume forbidden states and non-time indicating numbers are generated. This problem is eliminated by a gate circuit responsive to each such non-time indicating number to apply a high frequency signal source to the counter to advance the counter to a time indicating number. Because non-time indicating numbers can also occur on a transient basis, the gate circuit also includes a time delay to avoid response to such transients. The time delay may be provided by a second signal synchronized with the source of transient generation and gated with the strobe signal in a phase to block response to the transient for one-half cycle of the second signal. This non-time indicating number correction circuit is also employed to correct non-time indicating numbers in the alarm time counter when the digital clock is switched to present an alarm time indication.

    • A time signal provides time and/or date information in a succession of time code telegrams that each include successive time frames having at least one data bit each. The time signal is received, decoded and evaluated to acquire the time information, for which only some of the data bits of a respective time code telegram are evaluated. Particularly, only those bits representing necessary time and/or date information are evaluated, while other bits containing other unneeded information are ignored or replaced by filler bits. A radio-controlled clock includes a bit decoder and an evaluating unit for decoding and evaluating only the pertinent bits, a counter that keeps track of the bit location in the telegram, and a controller that controls the decoder and/or evaluating unit to decode and evaluate only some particular ones of the received data bits in the telegram.
