    • A dual-mode mobile terminal that connects to synchronous and asynchronous mobile communication systems and a method for displaying accurate time information in the terminal. The terminal includes a timer and a controller. The timer generates an interrupt signal at a predetermined time. When entering an asynchronous communication mode, the controller starts the timer to generate the interrupt signal at the predetermined time. When receiving the interrupt signal from the timer, the controller connects to the synchronous mobile communication system to obtain accurate time information therefrom and then connects to the asynchronous mobile communication system to switch to the asynchronous communication mode.

    • A PLL for improving a locking time in a radio communication system, includes: a storage unit for digitally storing a series of different control voltages; a digital/analog converter for converting a read control voltage into an analog control voltage; a voltage controlled oscillator oscillating at a frequency in accordance with a level of a supplied analog control voltage or signal; a variable divider for frequency dividing the voltage controlled oscillator output in accordance with a variable dividing ratio determined by a system operating mode; a phase comparator for comparing a phase of the variable divider output with an externally supplied reference signal, and for outputting a phase difference signal indicative of a comparison result; a low-pass filter low-pass for filtering the phase difference signal; a level detector for comparing a level of the low-pass filter output with a reference level, and for generating a digital comparison result signal; a controller for reading one of the series of stored control voltages using the level detector output supplied to the digital/analog converter, and for performing a read operation until the level detector output is within a predetermined range; and a switch for supplying the digital/analog converter output to the voltage controlled oscillator.

    • A dual-mode mobile terminal, which can access synchronous and asynchronous mobile communication systems, includes a key input panel and a controller. The key input panel includes a call switching key for switching between calls from the two systems and a call end key for ending calls from the two systems. While the terminal performs communication of one call received from one of the two systems in a general communication mode over a communication channel currently established by the one system, the controller determines whether an incoming call is received from the other system. If the incoming call is received, the controller notifies the user of receipt of the incoming call. If the call switching key is pressed, the controller prepares a communication environment for communication of the incoming call, allowing the user to perform the communication of the incoming call while maintaining the currently established communication channel.

    • Disclosed is a main board of a portable terminal including a socket receiving an additional device, such as a memory card and being installed at one side of the main board, an interface connector attached to a printed circuit board, and a battery terminal attached to the printed circuit board. The interface connector and the battery terminal form a stacked structure together with the socket. The main board of the portable terminal is provided at a predetermined portion thereof with a stacked structure of the socket for receiving the memory card, the interface connector, and the battery terminal, thereby minimizing mounting space required for the above elements, ensuring mounting space for installing other parts, and efficiently utilizing part mounting space. The socket and the interface connector are located adjacent to each other, and the socket and the interface connector are exposed through a common opening, thereby making the assembly for the portable terminal more efficient.
