    • A camera includes a frame having a movably attached film engaging member including a metering pawl for engaging a contained filmstrip. A light locking cover attached to the frame prevents ambient light from entering a defined light tight enclosure surrounding the film engaging member with the exception of an opening to allow a locking portion of a second movable lever within the lighttight enclosure for engaging the film engaging member. The lever includes an integral light locking portion adjacent the locking portion which blocks the opening of the first light locking cover but allows the locking portion to engage the film engaging member. The access opening of the light locking cover is sufficiently large to allow pivoting movement of the locking portion, the cover preferably including a recess to allow the light blocking portion of the lever to effectively cover the opening in a lighttight manner.

    • A metering apparatus for a filmstrip forms with at least one perforation for each film frame including a metering member which is configured for engaging at least one perforation for each film frame, so as to prevent the filmstrip from moving in a film advancing direction. According to the invention, the metering member includes at least one cam follower for contacting a trailing edge of a perforation to cam the metering member out of engagement with the filmstrip when the filmstrip is moved in an opposite film rewinding direction. The metering apparatus also includes a mechanism for retracting the metering member to allow the filmstrip to be subsequently advanced for film frame exposure. The retracting mechanism is mechanically coupled to the release of a high energy lever used for tripping the shutter blade of a camera so that advancement and exposure of the filmstrip can be controlled in a simple manner.

    • A film transporting device for use in a camera disclosed is so designed as to rewind the film such that no film portion is engaged in film take-up sprocket, resulting in an easy take out of the use film. The device in one form includes a counter that counts up the number of frames during a wind-up operation is carried out after the positioning of a film leader in contact with the take-up sprocket, and during a rewind operation, the counter counts down the same number of frames, or more, to locate the film leader in a disengaged position from the sprocket. The device in another form includes a film perforation detector. In this form, the film rewind operation is carried out until the perforation detector stops detecting the perforation. In a further form, the device includes a mechanical counter which counts up the frames used during wind-up operation, and during rewind operation counts down more than the number counted up to ensure that the film leader portion is withdrawn from the take-up sprocket.

    • A camera for perforated roll film includes a transport mechanism for advancing film along an exposure plane, a metering lever spring biased from an inactive toward an active position to disable the transport mechanism, and a sensing member for detecting the arrival of a perforation in the film at a predetermined position. The metering lever engages the film sensing member and biases the film sensing member into contact with the film. Sensing of a perforation and subsequent movement of the sensing member to a metering position disengages the sensing member from the metering lever and permits movement of the metering lever to its active position. Exposure operation of the shutter actuating mechanism returns the metering lever to its inactive position. A spring acting substantially parallel to the exposure plane is operative to return the sensing member to its sensing position upon subsequent operation of the film transport mechanism.
