    • A method and system for controlling a heating, ventilating, and air conditioning unit is provided. The system includes a conditioning unit having a heating stage, a cooling stage, and a fan. The conditioning unit operates in an active mode where one of the heating stage and the cooling stage is activated to condition air in an enclosure. The conditioning unit also operates in a ventilation mode to provide supply air to the enclosure. A supply temperature sensor is provided to sense the temperature of the supply air. A central control operates to activate one of the heating stage and the cooling stage when the conditioning unit is operating in the ventilation mode and the temperature of the supply air is outside of a predetermined range.

    • A fan control system suitable for use in air moving applications has a pressure sensor responsive to an air pressure in an air duct for supplying a static pressure signal representative of the air pressure. A supply air flow sensor is responsive to an air flow in a supply air duct and supplies a supply air flow signal representative of the air flow in the supply air duct. A return air flow sensor is responsive to an air flow in a return air duct and supplies a return air flow signal representative of the air flow in the return air duct. A supply fan moves air in the supply air duct. The supply fan is driven by a supply fan motor. A return fan moves air in the return air duct. The return fan is driven by a return fan motor. A unitary volumetric air flow controller is connected to the supply fan motor and to the return fan motor. The air flow controller selectively applies a supply drive power signal to the supply fan motor to energize the supply fan motor, and selectively applies a return drive signal to the return fan motor to energize the return fan motor. The power drive signals are responsive to the static pressure signal, supply air flow signal, and return air flow signal.

    • An air handling system including at least one terminal unit for maintaining a serviced volume at a predetermined temperature below the temperature of the air supplied by the central source of the air handling system is provided through the use of a refrigerant means in the form of a passive thermal energy recovery device which provides heat transfer between the outgoing and inflowing air streams provided by the a central air handling system. The heat transfer between air streams is regulated as a function of air velocity and temperature differentials as measured at various points in system which are related specifically to the serviced volume. Environmental control within the serviced volume is exercised by controlling face and bypass dampers to regulate the air flow through the passive heat exchanger and the air exchange rate is controlled by modulating the operation of the dampers or by regulating the air flow into or out of the serviced volume by way of supply and/or exhaust louvers.

    • An air comfort control device is disclosed which has a furnace with a furnace fan, an air conditioner with an air conditioner fan positioned remote from the furnace fan, and a temperature controller responsive to temperature changes in air in a partially enclosed environment, wherein the temperature controller sends a fan output signal to both the furnace fan and the air conditioner fan to run together to circulate air through the partially enclosed environment. The thermostat controller may also provide for multiple operation settings, including both automatic and manual options. The air comfort control device may also have a motor controller capable of sending more than one voltage to a blower motor to set a furnace fan at more than one speed. The motor controller can be produced separate from an ignition controller where the ignition controller determines whether a gas valve is open or closed and the motor controller sets the gas valve to a high position or a low position.
