    • A driving/turnaround device in use with a remote controlled toy vehicle comprises a reversible motor operable by an external command, an intermediate gear being in mesh with a gear rotated by the motor, a pair of axles being independently provided for right and left driving wheels, the intermediate gear being in mesh with a gear for transmitting a drive force to one of the axles, a rectilinear movement gear and a turnaround reduction gear being in mesh with a gear for transmitting a drive force to the other of the axles, a swing member rotatably mounted to the car body being provided with a pair of switch gears meshing with each other, the swing member being swung so that one of the pair of the switch gears meshes with the intermediate gear, while the other is in mesh with the rectilinear movement gear in the forward rotation, and is meshed with the reduction gear in the reverse rotation.

    • A three speed winch has two alternative inputs. The first input shifts the winch between first, second and third gear trains by successive reversals of the direction of an input member. The alternative input drives the winch at two different speeds responsive to rotation of an input member in opposite directions. The alternative input may be connected to drive the winch in either first or third gear so that the winch provides seven gear ratios. There are four pairs of gear ratios available by simple reversal of direction of an input, and the winch has three different ratios between the gear ratios of the different pairs.

    • A winch particularly adapted for hauling lines on a sailing craft which will provide three wind-up speeds of the drum for one speed applied to a central shaft by a winch handle or a segment wheel attached to the shaft. Internally, the winch has a gear train mechanism including two rachet gears that provide two different drum speeds when the handle or segment wheel is rotated in opposite directions. A first speed is provided by an engaging means on the drum which causes it to be directly driven in one direction while overriding both ratchet gears of the internal gearing. The engaging means is retracted by movement of the handle or segment wheel in the opposite direction which thus drives the drum at a second speed through one ratchet gear of the internal gear mechanism. Another reversal of the handle or segment wheel causes the drum to be driven at a third speed through the other ratchet gear as long as the engaging means remains in its retracted position. The movable element of the engaging means may be situated in the end face of the drum or in the handle.

    • An automatic three-speed winch comprising a base plate (1), a bollard (2) mounted for rotation relative to said base plate and carrying teeth (7) on its inner surface, arranged to cooperate through intermediate gears, with at least one driving gear (5, 6) around a central shaft (14) of the winch. An element (21, 22) is provided, which is mounted for rotation between a first and a second position about the central shaft (4) of the winch, which element carries three shafts (12, 14, 20), with a pair of gears (8, 11; 18, 19; 10, 13) being mounted for rotation about each shaft. The transition between the three different speeds takes place fully automatically by just changing the direction of rotation of the driving gear, without requiring any further operation on the winch.
