    • A bolting system secures its nuts with locking pins and securing portions. The first and second bolts extend through a surface in the same general orientation, wherein each of the bolts has a threaded end. First and second nuts are engaged with the bolts' threaded ends. Each nut has a nut wall with a threaded inner surface, an opposing outer surface, and a pin insertion hole radially extending at least partially through the nut wall from the outer surface. First and second locking pins are disposed in the pin insertion holes, each pin having a top portion that extends beyond the outer surface. The top portion has at least one aperture extending therethrough. A first securing portion extends through the first locking pin aperture and is secured around the first nut outer surface. A second securing portion extends through the second locking pin aperture and is secured around the second nut outer surface. A third securing portion is secured through the apertures of the first and second pins.

    • A hand tool for applying a ferrule to a safety cable is disclosed having a ferrule positioning device to position the ferrule while a safety cable is placed through the ferrule and through the tool, a mechanism for applying a tension to the cable and a mechanism to crimp the ferrule so as to attach the ferrule to the safety cable. A ferrule holding device, which may contain several ferrules is removably attachable to an elongated body of the hand tool such that one of the ferrules in the holding device is aligned with an opening defined by the elongated body. After threading the safety cable through the ferrule in the ferrule holding device and the opening in the elongated body, it is attached to a tensioning device which applies a predetermined tension to the safety cable. The tensioning device incorporates a clutch which disengages the tensioning device once the predetermined tension has been achieved. A pair of handles are pivotally attached to each other and are associated with the elongated body and a crimping punch such that when the handles are squeezed toward each other, the crimping punch deforms the ferrule to attach it to the safety cable. The hand tool according to this invention incorporates a locking device to prevent the handles from being moved toward each other until the predetermined tension has been placed in the safety cable. The clutch mechanism which disengages the tensioning device may also disengage the locking mechanism to enable the handles to be moved toward each other once the predetermined tension has been achieved. The device also incorporates a ratchet device associated with the handles to prevent the handles from returning to their initial, spaced apart positions until the ferrule has been properly crimped onto the safety cable. This positively ensures that the ferrule is properly affixed to the safety cable by preventing the return of the handles to their initial positions and the removal of the device from the ferrule.

    • A lug nut retainer that holds a lug nut in position proximate to a wheel lug hole to accept a stud extended through the wheel lug hole and for resiliently urges the lug nut onto the stud while allowing the lug nut to rotate to screw onto and off the stud. A resilient retaining clip is mounted onto the wheel to hold the lug nut in position near the wheel lug hole and to resiliently urge the lug nut towards the wheel lug hole. The retaining clip is fastened to the wheel lug hole by inserting an arm of the clip through two holes provided in the wheel. As an additional feature, a limit clip is provided that limits the motion of the retaining clip to decrease the likelihood that the retaining clip may be bent or damaged while allowing the retaining clip to be positioned on a nut. The lug nut is provided with a socket stop ring around which the retaining clip is positioned. The stop ring keeps the socket from rubbing against the retaining clip. For wheel types where the retaining clips protruding through the back of the wheel would contact the hub or otherwise interfere with other parts of the automobile, a retaining plate is attached to the wheel for holding the retaining and limit clips.

    • A stud-like panel fastener with a wire-spring holdout for retaining the fastener in a retracted position on a panel. The fastener is formed with a bore extending from its leading end and a longitudinal slot at the lower portion of the fastener body in communication with the bore. A generally U-shaped wire spring member is carried within the bore with a lower protruding bearing surface on one leg of the member extending through the slot and beyond the periphery of the fastener body. When the fastener is retracted, the bearing surface of the spring member, in contact with the sidewall of the panel opening, holds the fastener against downward movement. Owing to the advantageous construction, the holdout is self-cleaning, as the sidewalls of the slot tend to wipe the bearing surface in use, and debris cannot build up behind the holdout and render it inoperative due to the large void behind the bearing surface. Also, the holdout can be quickly installed or replaced without special tools.
