    • The present invention relates to a rotary piston pump for conveying and/or metering liquid or pourable media. It consists of a pump casing (2) with a cylinder chamber (4) having a cylindrical inner periphery (6) into which open at least one inlet (8) and at least out outlet (10), and a rotary piston (20) rotating inside the cylinder chamber (4) which, together with at least one region of its outer peripheral surface (22) forms a seal with the inner peripheral surface (6) of the cylinder chamber (4) and is separated in regions from the inner peripheral surface (6) by a radial stroke distance. When the rotary piston rotates (arrow 70), an expanding working chamber (24) is formed in the region of the inlet (8) to draw the medium in and, on further rotation, contracts again in the region of the outlet to force the medium out. The working chamber (24) concerned is limited, at least during its increase or decrease in volume, by at least one separating slide (26) in front of the inlet (8) or behind the outlet (10) viewed in the direction of rotation. Said slide is moved to and fro (arrow 32) in the pump casing (2), as the rotary piston (20) rotates, in a substantially radial direction to the axis of rotation (34) in such a way that it forms a seal with the outer peripheral surface (22) of the rotary piston (20). The separating slide (26) is forcibly moved by means of a drive device (30) synchronised with the rotary piston (20).

    • A gear pump for unidirectionally transporting a fluid such as oil has a stationary housing with an inlet port and an outlet port on opposite sides of the axis of a cylindrical chamber in which a ring with an eccentric inner periphery is rotatable through an arc of 180.degree. between two limiting positions. Freely rotatable within the inner ring periphery is an annular outer rotor with internal gear teeth entrainable by a driven inner rotor with external gear teeth, the latter numbering one less than the internal gear teeth of the outer rotor. A face of the ring has one or more shallow depressions open toward the outer rotor, each depression being spanned by a leaf spring which is anchored to the ring and defines with the outer periphery of that rotor a wedge-shaped gap diverging symmetrically toward its ends to form alternate lodgments for a rotary coupling member such as a ball or a roller. With the ring in one of its limiting positions and the rotors being driven in a direction in which the pumping spaces formed between the coacting rotor teeth move the fluid from the inlet port to the outlet port, the coupling member lies free or under light spring pressure in the downstream lodgment as seen in the direction of rotation. When the rotor drive is reversed, leakage fluid present at the contact surface between the outer rotor and the ring builds up sufficient pressure to drive the coupling member toward the narrow waist of its gap to entrain the ring into its other limiting position in which it is arrested as the coupling member moves past that waist into its opposite lodgment.

    • A rotary fluid handling device, such as a hydraulic pump, comprising a housing defining a cylindrical chamber, a shaft journalled in the housing and coaxial with the chamber, a cylindrical cam eccentrically mounted on said shaft within the chamber, a cylindrical sleeve rotatably surrounding said cam, the chamber space around said sleeve being divided into a plurality of similar compartments by radial blades or partition members slidable in slots of the housing and urged against the sleeve. Rotation of the cam produces cyclic decrease and increase of the volume of the compartments in succession to provide for the pumping effect in the case of a pump. Each compartment has its own inlet and outlet port. Each outlet port has a check valve. The inlet ports are arranged along a circle coaxial with the shaft. A valve member is keyed on the shaft and provides an inlet port closing surface extending through half a circle to therefore close half the inlet ports at the same time and to successively open the inlet ports with rotation of the shaft. The pump can be easily converted into a hydraulic motor. Means are provided to angularly shift the valve member for the inlet ports with respect to the top dead center position of the cam, in order to retard or advance the admission of fluid into the compartments, resulting in a variable flow pump or motor. A new centrifugal type governor system, in the form of a pump acting as a turbine, produces increase of the fluid pressure in a cylinder which acts on the piston to move the same axially of the shaft, to thereby produce angular shifting of the valve member with respect to the shaft. The hydraulic type governor system can be applied to other uses.
