    • A powered drive assembly for positioning various slidable components within a vehicle interior. The powered drive assembly includes a motor assembly operably coupled to a flexible flocked drive cable which is supported for rotation within a housing. The flocked drive cable provides a helical surface. Specific coupling members are adapted to engage the helical surface and operably couple the drive cable with the slidable component. For example, in one preferred embodiment a coupling bracket operably couples the flocked drive cable to a slidable window assembly of the type used in the rear opening of a pick-up cab for opening and closing the window. In a second preferred embodiment, the coupling member operably couples the drive cable to a curtain assembly located within the interior of an over-the-road truck cab for opening and closing the curtain. The drive assembly further enables the motor assembly to be remotely located from the housing and coupling brackets, thereby facilitating in packaging of the powered drive assembly within the confines of the vehicle interior.

    • A modular sliding window assembly in a motor vehicle has two glazing panes, typically a sliding subassembly incorporating two vertically mounted transparent panes, which are slidably mounted in a circumferential frame slightly to the interior of, substantially parallel to and between two fixed panes. The sliding panes are mounted for sliding laterally back and forth between their open and closed positions. A motor and drive drum apparatus for powered operation of the window assembly is mounted to the vehicle body at a location remote from the frame. First and second cable fasteners are mounted to first and second sliding panes, respectively, and first and second cable guides are provided to guide a drive cable. The drive cable extends from the drive drum to the second cable fastener through the first cable guide, from the second cable fastener to the first cable fastener through the second cable guide, and from the first cable fastener to the drive drum through the first cable guide.

    • A sliding vehicle window assembly is provided which includes at least one, and preferably a pair, of window panels spaced from each other to define a window opening and interconnected by upper and lower frame members or tracks, bonded to the interior surface of the pair of window panels. The upper and lower frame members are also spaced vertically apart from each other. At least one, and preferably two, arcuate channels are defined in each of the inwardly facing walls of the two frame members--the two channels arranged generally in tandem or end-to-end alignment. The pair of channels in each frame member are configured to receive a window panel, opposite ends of which retain cam or channel followers received by the channels. A latch handle interconnects one end of each cam follower and includes a cam projection also received in the channel and when rotated in one end of the channels, moves the sliding window generally perpendicularly with respect to the window opening when the window is located over the window opening. The sliding window is sealed against the window opening by a seal fixed to the interior surface of the fixed window panels carried in a seal carrier which spans the upper and lower portions of the window opening. The advantages resulting from the various forms of the invention include a sliding vehicle window assembly which is substantially flush with the exterior of the vehicle. There are no components which extend beyond the exterior surface of the fixed panels. Additionally, all of the components may be injection molded from lightweight, rigid materials, resulting in less expense. Moreover, the window assembly design is easy to assemble resulting in less man hours per unit and, as a result, less cost. The window assembly is easily adapted to any one of a number of different gasketing techniques used to retain the vehicle window assembly in the vehicle window opening.

    • A motor vehicle window construction has a pull-pull closed loop cable drive system for opening and closing a glazing pane slidably mounted in a frame. A motor and drive drum apparatus for powered operation of the window construction is mounted to the vehicle body at a location remote from the frame. The cable system includes drive cable wrapped around the drive drum. A first drive cable segment extends laterally from the glazing pane or from a slidably mounted subassembly incorporating the glazing pane, toward one side of the frame member. A second drive cable segment extends from the glazing pane or subassembly toward the opposite side of the frame. The glazing pane and drive cable together form a closed loop from the drive drum. Rotating of the drive drum in a first rotational direction by actuation of the drive motor pulls the slidably mounted transparent pane toward its open position. Rotating the drive drum in the opposite rotational direction pulls the glazing pane toward its closed position. A method also is provided for retrofitting a manual-slide window construction preinstalled in a motor vehicle body to be a powered slide window as just described. A retrofitting kit is provided for carrying out such retrofitting method.

    • A foot treadle for use in opening a sliding door of the type mounted for initial movement in three directional dimensions from its closed position comprises a lever having an axis of rotation. The lever has a leg that depends generally downwardly from the axis and an arm that extends generally laterally from the axis. A pedal is mounted to the arm distally from the axis of rotation. The lever is mounted to a door jamb of a sliding door with the lever leg closely adjacent a lower end of the door for pivotal movement about the lever axis of rotation in pushing and sliding engagement with the door lower end. Upon a person stepping upon the pedal the lever leg applies a force laterally and upwardly against the door lower end thereby urging the door laterally and upwardly out of sealed engagement with the door jamb and floor as the door lower end slides outwardly from the door jamb in sliding contact with the lever leg.
