摘要： A propellant strip assembly for use in propellant actuated fastener driving tools. The assembly includes a carrying strip which contains a plurality of pockets which each hold a propellant charge and a sensitizer to activate the charge. The carrying strip is adhesively joined to a cover strip to isolate the individual charges, and each pocket is also sealed around its periphery to further improve the isolation. The cover strip may contain a ribbed section to physically separate the charge and sensitizer within each pocket to aid in prevention of accidental ignition.

摘要： A colored pyrotechnic smoke-producing composition has an oxidizer, a fuel, a flame retardant, a dye, a coolant, and a binder. The oxidizer may be potassium chlorate. The fuel may be starch, dextrose, lactose, and/or sucrose. The coolant may be sodium bicarbonate or magnesium carbonate. The binder may be nitrocellulose or a halogen-free thermoplastic. The flame retardant may be one or more nitrogen-rich compounds. The composition may be in pelletized form or in the form of a solid charge. The composition may consist of on a mass basis oxidizer 20-35%, fuel 15-25%, flame retardant 5-15%, dye 27-40%, coolant 8-18%, and binder 1-2%. The invention may be a device consisting of a body filled with the composition and a first fire starter composition, and an attached squib igniter. The body may be a grenade. A process for producing the composition is also disclosed.

摘要： Smoke-producing compositions are disclosed that combine the low toxicity of an organic acid smoke and the high obscuration effect of a red phosphorus (RP) smoke. Phosphoric acid produced by RP is neutralized by an acid scavenger added to at least one of the RP or organic acid smoke formulations. To prevent chemical reaction between ingredients of the two smoke-producing formulations, they are separated in the apparatus of the present invention such that only the resulting smokes mix. Very small amount of a RP smoke formulation increases the obscuration index of organic acid smokes comparable to conventional hygroscopic chloride (HC) smokes.
