摘要： A method and device for feeding signatures on to a fixed horizontal saddle of an input conveyor to a sewing machine; whereby the signatures, arranged with the backs facing rearwards, lying in respective vertical planes parallel to the fixed saddle, and separated by a distance of less than the maximum width of the signatures, are fed along a conveyor sloping downwards in the travelling direction of the input conveyor; the signatures being fed in an oblique direction in relation to the backs; each signature having a top corner projecting laterally from the stream of signatures travelling along the conveyor, which corner is engaged by a number of suction type parting heads located along, and moving reciprocatingly in the travelling direction of the signatures along the conveyor; and the signatures being so fed to an accelerating device designed to successively withdraw the signatures off the conveyor, and transfer the same, now parted, on to the fixed saddle; the parted front corner of each signature being guided, during transfer, by a fixed curved supporting plate, and being the first to engage the fixed saddle.

摘要： Printed products having a center fold are provided with appropriate product break structure for facilitating opening of the printed products. Such product break structure comprises a crimp structure which may be in the form of impressions or embossments. This crimp structure is provided in the region of one end of the center fold of the printed products to be opened. These crimp structures mutually converge in relation to one another and extend to a common point located on the center fold of the printed products. Each of the printed products can be opened at the center fold by applying or exerting pressure on the folded edge or spine of the printed products at the end of the center fold which is provided with the crimp structure. An opening element can enter the opening thus formed for separating the two halves of each of the printed products.

An adhesive applicator (60) applies adhesive to a portion or portions of the first side of each sheet (24). A stacking means (100) stacks the cut sheets one on top of the other whereby a forming means (120) forms the cut sheets together to form the notepad (15).

摘要： Folded printed sheets are delivered by a first conveyor into the radially extending pockets of a turret-shaped second conveyor for delivery onto successive saddles of a gathering conveyor which transports stacks of superimposed interfitted folded sheets to a stapling apparatus. The fold lines are disposed at the leading ends of sheets which enter the pockets of the second conveyor to engage suitable abutments, and the sheets are thereupon acted upon by centrifugal force to move radially outwardly against stops in their pockets prior to being withdrawn and simultaneously partially spread out for deposition on the oncoming saddles of the gathering conveyor. The second conveyor rotates about a horizontal axis which is located at a level above the gathering conveyor and at the level of or below the discharge end of the first conveyor.

The transport belt (18) with the separating elements thereon is guided about a curved guide surface (20), for example a roller, whereupon the separating elements will spread or fan out from the underlying transport belt. In this spread or fanned out position, they can accept one sheet element (11) of a spread apart folded product (1), the separating element (19) gripping that sheet element (11) between itself and the transport belt. The folded products can then be transported, in scale-like or imbricated or shingled form, to a storage position, for example by rolling up the steel ribbon (18). The folded products are released be again passing the belt about a curved directing surface (26) which may again be a roller or the same roller, which will again fan out the separating elements, spreading them from the transport belt (18) for release of the folded products, for example for placement on a saddle or other support structure where they are held suspended from beneath the bend or fold thereof.

摘要： The rear cover sheets of successively bound exercise pads and similar stationary products, wherein the sheets are pivotably held together by a spiral or comb-like binder, are located in front of the front cover sheets immediately following completion of the binding operation. A corner of each rear cover sheet is first lifted off the adjacent outer side of the front cover sheet by a suction cup, and a wedge is inserted betweeen the two cover sheets to form or maintain a gap which is kept open by a strip entering the gap as a result of advancement of the respective pad in parallelism with the axis of its binder in a direction away from the binding station and toward a first turning device having a rod which penetrates into the gap of the oncoming pad and is pivoted to turn the rear cover sheet away from the front cover sheet to an intermediate position on the upper reach of a first endless belt conveyor on which the pads advance in such a way that their partially turned rear cover sheets are located ahead of the respective binders. The turning operation is completed during transfer of successive pads from the first conveyor onto a second endless belt conveyor with assistance from a wheel which is driven to rotate in a direction counter to the travel of the upper reaches of the conveyors.

摘要： Apparatus for opening folded paper sheets, each of which has a first and a second set of layers and each of which has an edge portion along which the layers are pivotable relative to each other, has a horizontal conveyor which transports each of a succession of folded sheets in such a way that the edge portion is located at the top and the layers extend downwardly. A group of suction heads, one for each layer of a set of layers, is adjacent to one side of the path of movement of successive folded sheets, and the suction heads orbit about axes which are inclined with respect to the vertical so that each suction head moves upwardly during that stage of each of its orbital movements when it approaches and attracts the respective layer and flexes it outwardly whereby the inner side of the layer can be intercepted by a stationary retaining element which follows the respective suction head. The foremost suction head flexes the outermost layer of a set of layers, the next suction head flexes the next-to-the outermost layer, and so forth.

摘要： The backs of a stack of square folded sheets in a gathering apparatus rest on the upper side of the upper reach of an endless belt, and successive sheets of the stack are withdrawn by the gripper of a rotating drum which delivers a succession of discrete sheets into the nip of two rotary opening conveyors serving to deposit opened sheets on the straight upper reach of a chain conveyor. The folded edges of the folded sheets are located ahead of the unfolded edges, as considered in the direction of travel of the upper reach of the chain conveyor, when the sheets are in the process of descending onto the chain conveyor, and the axes of the drum and opening conveyors make acute angles with and slope toward the upper reach of the chain conveyor counter to the direction of travel of the upper reach. The upper side of the belt is parallel to the axes of the drum and opening conveyors and also slopes toward the upper reach of the chain conveyor counter to the direction of travel of the upper reach. Such mode of depositing square folded sheets prevents their unfolded edges from interfering with predictable deposition, even when the chain conveyor is to receive sheets at frequent intervals.
