    • A thermally imageable element can be imaged using heat alone without the need for photosensitivity or post-imaging processing. The element contains image-forming chemistry that comprises i) image precursor chemistry and ii) a catalyst or a catalyst precursor that upon imagewise heating is capable of promoting thermally induced image formation with the image precursor chemistry. The image-forming chemistry i) and ii) components are in reactive association and uniformly dispersed or dissolved within a binder in one or more layers of the element. Thus, the element is capable of being thermally addressed to provide a visible image as a result of thermally induced catalytic transformation of the image-forming chemistry.

    • A process of controlling the gloss of a thermal dye transfer image comprising: (a) imagewise-heating a dye-donor element comprising a support having thereon a dye layer comprising an image dye in a binder, the dye-donor being in contact with a dye-receiving element, thereby transferring a dye image to an image-receiving layer of the dye-receiving element to form the dye transfer image; and (b) thermally transferring a protection layer on top of the transferred dye image, the protection layer being applied from an element which contains unexpanded synthetic thermoplastic polymeric microspheres, the microspheres having a particle size in the unexpanded condition of from about 5 to about 20 &mgr;m, the protection layer being transferred using a given energy level in order to expand the microspheres until a desired gloss level is obtained.

    • A developing paper having an image receiving dye layer containing a plasticizing agent on a substrate, the plasticizing agent including a solid plasticizing agent which is solid in the application temperature and a liquid plasticizing agent which is liquid in the application temperature. Since the developing paper contains a plasticizing agent including a liquid plasticizing agent and a solid plasticizing agent, the developing paper has an excellent light resistance. Moreover, since the plasticizing agent contains a liquid plasticizing agent and a solid plasticizing agent, there is no danger of precipitation of the plasticizing agent from the surface of the developing paper. Furthermore, the developing paper containing the aforementioned plasticizing agent enables to obtain a desirable plasticizing effect.
