    • In a first aspect, the invention provides an ink formulation comprising: (a) a near infrared absorbing system comprising a compound of the formula M1W1.6O6, wherein M1 is one or more elements selected from the group consisting of H, He, alkali metals such as Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, alkaline earth metals such as Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, rare-earth elements, Zr, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ru, Co, Rh, Ir, Ni, Pd, Pt, Cu, Ag, Au, Zn, Cd, AL Ga, in, Tl, Si, Ge, Sn, Pb, Sb, B, F, P, S, Se, Br, Te, Ti, Nb, V, Mo, Ta, Re, Hf, Os, Bi and I, or ammonium; (b) a colour change agent; and (c) a binder. The invention also provides alternative ink formulations for laser marking, a method of forming an image using the ink formulations and a substrate coated with the ink formulation of the invention. Ink formulations according to the invention have been found to have good laser imaging efficacy, and an essentially negligible impact on the background colour of the coating.

    • A primary object of the present invention is to provide a thermosensitive recording material that achieves high recording density and excellent preservability of a recorded part, or to provide a thermosensitive recording material that achieves high recording density, and excellent heat resistant and resistance to thermal background fogging property in a high temperature environment, as well as excellent sticking resistance and resistance to dirt adhesion of head.The present invention is a thermosensitive recording material having a thermosensitive recording layer containing at least a leuco dye and a developer on a support; the thermosensitive recording material containing, as the developer, a sulfonamide compound represented by general formula (1); (a) the thermosensitive recording material further having a protective layer on the thermosensitive recording layer; the protective layer containing at least one type of adhesive agent selected from the group consisting of water soluble adhesive agents and water dispersible adhesive agents; and at least one of the thermosensitive recording layer or the protective layer containing a water resistance-imparting agent; or (b) the thermosensitive recording layer further containing saturated fatty acid amide represented by general formula (2).

    • A method for preparing a color laser marked article using three infrared lasers L-1, L-2 and L-3 having respectively a laser emission wavelength of λ(L-1), λ(L-2) and λ(L-3) includes the steps of laser marking with the infrared laser L-1 a first color laser markable layer including an infrared dye IR-1 having an absorption maximum in the infrared region λmax(IR-1); laser marking with the infrared laser L-2 a second color laser markable layer including an infrared dye IR-2 having an absorption maximum in the infrared region λmax(IR-2); laser marking with the infrared laser L-3 a third color laser markable layer including an infrared dye IR-3 having an absorption maximum in the infrared region λmax(IR-3); and at least partially exposing the color laser markable article to light having a wavelength between 520 nm and 700 nm, wherein, the laser emission wavelengths satisfy the condition of: λ(L-1)>λ(L-2)>λ(L-3); the infrared red dye absorption maxima satisfy the condition of: λmax(IR-1)>λmax(IR-2)>λmax(IR-3); and the light emitted by the infrared laser L-1 passes, in order, through the third and second color laser markable layer before exposing the first color laser markable layer.
