    • A plastic-like container liner having spaced apart ridges at the bottom of said liner has a non-adhering material positioned on the upper inner surface of each ridge. A lower container body is positioned into a female foaming fixture and an expanding exothermic foam is injected onto the inside bottom surface of the lower container body. A male foaming fixture having spaced apart recesses conforming to the ridges of the liner intimately receives the liner and urges the peripheral flat portion of the liner toward the bottom surface of the lower container body. The foam expands exothermally such that heat released by the foam causes the non-adhering material to flow. The expanding foam is bonded to the lower container body and to the portion of the liner not in contact with the non-adhering material. Resultingly, an integral insulated container is formed having projecting ridges on the bottom surface thereof which assist in resisting the shock of items dropped into the container.

    • A molded plastic bowling pin incorporating a core extending the length of the pin substantially from its base to its head and constituted of a plurality of plastic core elements of varying sizes and shapes such that the composite pin incorporating the same meets the weight distribution standards set by the American Bowling Congress, and a shell defining the external configuration of the pin, the shell having a substantially uniform thickness about the core elements and being integrally molded on and firmly bonded thereto. The pin is manufactured by assembly of the internal core from the individual plastic core elements having the predetermined, desired weight distribution, and thereafter injection molding the shell directly thereon to define the composite, integrally molded bowling pin.

    • A method of making a deep drawn, laminated, non-metallic article having h ballistic resistance and having a smooth edge which comprises, preparing a preform comprising a plurality of superimposed patterns of aromatic polyamide fabric impregnated with a thermoplastic or thermosetting resin, then either (a) trimming the preform to form a peripheral edge thereon so as to allow for application of additional resin in a suitable form to the peripheral edge during the final molding of the preform, applying the additional resin to the peripheral edge of the trimmed preform, and finish molding the article accompanied by flow of the additional resin about the peripheral edge to produce a smooth edge on the final molded article, or (b) applying an epoxy resin film on the outer surface of the preform, or on the superimposed patterns prior to making the preform, around the periphery of the preform or superimposed patterns and overlapping the line around the periphery of the preform on which cutoff occurs in the finish molding step, and finish molding the article, the finish molding being accompanied by cutoff and flow of the epoxy resin over the edge produced by cutoff to produce a smooth edge on the final molded article.

    • Buoyancy members in the form of a segment of a hollow cylinder are produced by providing a cylindrical mold having two longitudinally extending flanges spaced apart by not more than 180.degree.; forming a layer of fiber-filled uncured polymeric material on the surface of the mold between the flanges, with the layer being continuous, extending over the surfaces of the flanges and including an overhang at the edge of each flange; assembling on the uncured layer a plurality of rigid elongated tubular elements disposed in side-by-side relationship with the assembly of tubular elements filling the angular space between the portions of the layer carried by the flanges; bending the overhand portions of the layer to overlie the corresponding outer edges of the assembly of tubular elements; applying at least one flexible reenforcing member transversely across the assembly of tubular elements with the reenforcing member extending across the flanges and being held under tension; applying a layer of fiber-filled uncured polymeric material over the exposed surfaces of the assembly of tubular elements until the assembly of tubular elements is completely enclosed in a shell of the fiber-filled uncured polymeric material; and curing the polymeric material. The buoyancy members are particularly useful to control the overall buoyancy of subsea risers.
