    • A system for combining, mixing, and further processing ingredients to produce a specified weight of a composition in accordance with a specified recipe. The ingredients are discharged from hoppers into a central conveyor. Each hopper operates under control of a hopper controller that regulates the discharge rate and controls refilling of its associated hopper. The ingredients are mixed in the central conveyor as they are transferred to a processing device, such as a mill or roaster, and then discharged from the processing device into a network of conveyors for transfer to another location for further handling. The system operates under the control of a central controller which regulates the discharge rates of the various ingredients to optimize the feedrate to the processing device. The central controller also monitors the weight of the processed product in a production run and compares it with the specified total weight for the run in order to shut down the system when the specified total weight has been processed.

    • The present invention is a universal blending method for blending the material contents of a silo having a predetermined interior cross-sectional area by layer blending or across vertical columns, column blending, or a combination of layer and column blending.The presently preferred method of the present invention employs either vertical displacement of a partial vertical column of the silo content to provide a representative mixture in every horizontal cross-section in order to reduce the number of necessary recycles to a minimum or substantially simultaneous multilevel displacement, with subsequent uniform discharge over the whole horizontal cross-section of the silo to remix material that may have been segregated during the filling or recycling. In either event, the presently preferred universal blending system includes a blending bottom whose construction gives the opportunity to make a choice of (1) discharge over only a partial area of the outlet area; (2) uniform discharge over the whole outlet area; or (3) predictable discharge velocity distribution over the outlet area.

    • The specification discloses a conveyor apparatus for combining programmed amounts of materials. The apparatus includes a conduit horizontally supported by a frame. The conduit has a plurality of inlet openings along the side for receiving the materials to be combined and a discharge orifice at one end for discharging the materials. A plurality of metering dispensers, each having a discharge opening, communicate with the inlet openings in the conduit in order to dispense a programmed amount of materials into the conduit. A cylindrical conveying piston is slidably positioned within the conduit, and moves along the conduit to move the materials within the conduit to the outlet orifice. The metering dispensers include a material sweep rotatably positioned at the bottom opening of a storage hopper. A distributor ring is positioned beneath the hopper opening and rotates with a cylindrical metering surface. Material is metered through the bottom opening in the storage hopper and then through the cylindrical metering surface by rotation of the distributor ring.
