摘要： Improved therapy members useful for treating of sprains, muscle aches, orthopedic and skin injuries such as burns and other wounds are provided which make use of a pliable, self-sustaining, moisture sorbing gel including a humectant such as glycerin entrapped within a synthetic resin polymer matrix (e.g., a matrix containing acrylic acid or acrylamide monomer moieties). In one preferred embodiment, a body of the gel is encased within heat and moisture-permeable stretch fabric, and securing ties or the like are provided to permit the composite to be conformed to a body part and held in place. In use, such therapy wraps are either heated (as in a microwave oven) or refrigerated, so as to provide appropriate thermal treatment; it has been found that the preferred gel of the invention retains its pliability and other physical properties over a very broad temperature range, such as -20.degree. to 305.degree. F., and therefore the wraps of the invention can be used in many treatment contexts. It has also been discovered that the gel material can be applied directly to injured skin to in effect create a temporary skin with ideal air permeability. Furthermore, the moisture absorbing and desorbing properties of the gel create a moisture equilibrium between the gel, damaged skin and the atmosphere, thus promoting rapid healing.

摘要： A synthetic resin wound dressing (e.g., a burn wound dressing) is disclosed consisting essentially of a polymer, such as poly(2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate), referred to as PHEMA, an organic solvent, such as polyethylene glycol (PEG), and a hydrogen binding plasticizer, such as dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO). The plasticizer regulates the set-up time of the synthetic resin so that the more plasticizer present, the shorter the set-up time. The dressing may be applied to the wound site in the form of a paste for the in situ curing or setting thereof, or the dressing may be preformed and then applied to the wound site. A variety of drug agents (e.g., silver sulfadiazine) may be incorporated in the synthetic resin so as to result in the time released administration of the drug agent to the area of the skin (e.g., a burn wound site or the like) covered by the wound dressing. A method of treatment using this dressing is also disclosed.

摘要： Polymeric sheets having on one or both sides a fabric texture and a network of elongated channels in the interior of the structural framework of the sheet. In one embodiment, the sheets comprise a plurality of interbonded continuous polymeric ribs extending in a direction parallel to the plane of the sheet. The ribs impart a fabric texture to both sides of the sheet and define between them recessed portions on each surface of the sheet. The elongated channels extend throughout the ribs. The open area between the ribs can vary from zero to 60%. In another embodiment, the sheets have an ultra-thin, pinhole-free silicone rubber membrane on one side and a fabric texture on the other side. The sheets are useful as burn coverings where they serve as synthetic temporary replacements for damaged or missing skin. The sheets have physiologic properties similar to human skin, excellent drapability characteristics, recessed portions which provide a reservoir for wound debris and, in certain embodiments, a dermal surface which permits wound adherence by fibroblastic ingrowth.

摘要： This invention relates to a hemostatic agent used in surgical operations, which can be produced in two ways: one blending collagen/gelatin with protamine, the other blending collagen/gelatin with protamine and a bi-functional cross-linking agent so as to make said collagen/gelatin have a covalent bond with said protamine. The produced hemostatic agent can stop bleeding within far less time than a conventional hemostatic agent made out of pure collagen.
