Specifically, a method of manufacturing a tobacco raw material is provided that includes a step for heating a tobacco leaf material, which has an a* value of 1.0 or less, the a* value being expressed by the L*a*b* method, and which has a moisture content of 8 wt % or less, at a temperature of 75° C. or higher and under a humidity-controlled environment so that the a* value is 1.0 or less and the content of the browning-involved enzyme is 0.1 U/g or less.

Method includes detecting, with a first foreign body detection device, the foreign bodies in the first tobacco stream based on at least one property, and removing, with a jet of compressed air, the foreign bodies from the first tobacco stream. In this manner, a foreign body freed tobacco stream and a second tobacco stream including tobacco particles and the foreign bodies entrained by the jet of compressed air are formed. Method also includes at least one of: accelerating the second stream at a distance from the first tobacco stream; and detecting, with a second foreign body detector, foreign bodies in the second stream based on at least one property and removing the detected foreign bodies with a second jet of compressed air.

The dryer uses a gaseous expanding and/or drying agent under an absolute working pressure in the range from 2.5 kPa to 10 MPa, such as overheated steam. During transporting the material from the feeding zone to the zone of contact with the expanding and/or drying agent, a feeder, preferably a rotary vane feeder (4) is flushed, preferably in a continuous manner. Openings are formed in the housing of the feeder, delivering the gaseous medium to the moving spaces between the vanes (3). There are additional openings leading out the gaseous medium from the moving spaces between the vanes, the additional openings being arranged respectively in the walls of the housing of the feeder.

摘要： Two types of tobacco are placed into and kept separate in an aqueous medium wherein water-soluble chemical components of each of the two types of tobacco are solubilized to form a tobacco extract. The two types of tobacco remain in the aqueous medium or tobacco extract until an equilibrium is reached of the solubilized chemical components in the aqueous medium. The two types of tobacco are then removed from the tobacco extract, dried separately, blended into a preselected ratio and cut into a preselected size for use in a cigarette smoking article. The tobacco extract may be subjected to other treatments to reduce the concentration of microflora and may be added back to the two types of tobacco prior to blending and cutting.

摘要： Retractable, self-cleaning pins are mounted on a rotating spray cylinder. Each pin is caused to extend into the cylinder during the upward motion of the pin in order to help convey material within the cylinder. Retraction of each pin occurs during its downward motion in order to remove material adhered to the pin. Extension and retraction of the pins may be controlled by such means as a cam. If desired, the interior surface of the cylinder may be scraped (e.g., by a stationary scraper) where the pins are retracted.

The apparatus can obtain a good drying efficiency for air drying tobacco leaves.
