    • A battery-operated apparatus for dispensing comestibles has a housing to which a comestibles-receiving barrel is removably connected. A removable piston is nonrotatably slidable within the barrel and pushed through the barrel by a piston rod nonrotatably connected to the piston and slidably received within the housing. The piston rod has external screw threads over a substantial portion of its length which are engaged by internal threads of an encircling drive nut. A drive member rotatably mounted in the housing and having a through-bore for slidably receiving the piston rod is provided for rotating the drive nut. The piston rod and the drive nut constitute a reversible assembly so that, following use, the barrel and the piston may be removed from the housing for cleaning and the piston rod with the drive nut thereon may be removed from the housing, turned upside-down, and reinserted into the housing ready for another use. Portions of the piston rod are unthreaded to prevent overtravel, and resilient stop members on the piston rod push the drive nut onto the threaded portion of the piston rod at each end of its travel to assure a threaded connection when the piston rod is reversed.

    • A manually operable extrusion press, especially one for producing pasta from a mass of dough, comprises a cylinder with a piston whose piston rod is embraced by flexible prongs of an operating lever that are pivoted to the top of the cylinder opposite a bottom nozzle provided with one or more shaping apertures. The sides of the piston rod facing the prongs have serrations coacting with driving pawls disposed on the inner prong surfaces which are outwardly yieldable during an upswing and engage the serrations on a downswing of the lever, the serrations being also engageable by retaining pawls on the cylinder serving as backstops. A 90.degree. rotation of the piston rod about its axis confronts both pairs of pawls with flat rod surfaces to enable free upward or downward motion of the piston. The entire assembly preferably consists of plastic material such as glass-fiber-reinforced polyamide.

    • A horizontal chamber and a piston movable in the chamber to discharge potato dough through a discharge opening at one end of the chamber. A dough dividing structure adapted for mounting in the discharge opening. A diaphragm and means for mounting the diaphragm on the face of the piston such that when the piston is retracted in the chamber from a body of dough therein, an air passage is created to relieve the vacuum between the diaphragm and the dough, thereby avoiding distortion of the dough. For charging the chamber with a body of dough to form an impervious barrier therein there is an adapter in vertical alignment below the constitutent introducing devices; the adapter supports the piston and the cylinder in vertical alignment below the constituent introducing devices so as to expedite charging of the machine to form an impervious dough barrier. After the constituents set into a dough the chamber, with the impervious barrier therein, and the piston are installed in the machine for normal operation. An improved nozzle for introducing the water constituent which nozzle virtually eliminates all kinetic energy or velocity necessarily developed when the water is delivered to the nozzle.
