    • An improved appliance for slicing food articles, particularly baked goods and bagels in a uniform, quick and safe manner. The appliance includes a food receptacle which is slidably inserted into one end of a main housing and into which a food item such as a bagel is placed. A motorized cutting carriage is pivotally mounted to the main housing and extends a serrated dual-bladed slicing assembly over the food item. When power is applied, the blades of the slicing assembly begin reciprocating, and the entire cutting carriage is pivoted with respect to the main housing in order to move the reciprocating blades of the slicing assembly through the food item. Once the food item is cut, the cutting carriage is returned to its home position, the food receptacle is slidably withdrawn, and the sliced food item is removed and consumed. The appliance requires a minimum of space and facilitates the slicing operation without damage to the bagel. The appliance is efficient, quick, easy to clean, and above all, completely safe.

    • A method and apparatus for slicing, lifting and carrying round bales or the like. The method for slicing the bale consists of making a radial cut through the length of the bale. The radial cut causes the circumferentially wrapped bale fibers to be cut which causes bale to open up. A partial radial cut, leaving the outer bale fibers uncut, can be made leaving bale substantially in a cylindrical shape to facilitate easy transport with a forklift like carrier. The apparatus consists of a mast assembly mounted to raiseable three point hitch of an agricultural tractor or the like. A pair of parallel forks are directly attached to mast and engage the curved sides of bale so as to lift and support bale for easy transport. A hydraulically activated knife assembly is attached to mast and forks. The knife has serrated teeth which cut through bale when knife reciprocates. A bumper or work guide when attached to the end of forks holds bale during cutting process.

    • A light-weight and structurally simple system for guiding the saw frame of a mechanical frame saw machine having a crank drive and a stationary machine frame on which the system is pivotally mounted. The system is composed of a vertically extending, flat inner guide plate pivotally mounted to the machine frame and carrying bearings mounted on bolts, and a guide part having the form of a plate, attached to the saw frame back, and provided with a laterally extending guide surface which bears against the guide plate and slides therealong during movement of the guide part relative to the guide plate, the guide part being provided with a vertical guide groove located, in the horizontal direction, midway between the ends of the guide part for engagement by the machine crank drive, and with two horizontal guide grooves presenting horizontal guide faces and extending in respectively opposite horizontal directions from respectively opposite ends of the vertical groove, the horizontal grooves and their associated guide faces engaging the bearings of the guide plate to be supported thereby. The guide part is provided, at the lateral side thereof which faces away from the guide plate, with at least one further guide surface extending parallel to the guide plate, and the system is further provided with a guide beam carried by the bolts to bear against the further guide surface in a manner to brace the guide part relative to the guide plate.
