    • A latch assembly (8) for securing and releasing a horse trailer divider (100), the latch assembly (8) having a mechanically leveraged handle (10) coupled to a latchbolt (13), the handle (10) and the latchbolt (13) having a latched position and an unlatched position. In one embodiment, the latch assembly (8) may be incorporated into a divider (100) having a first end (107A) hinged to a first wall (130) of the trailer and a second end (107B) releasably securable to a second wall (122). The latch assembly (8) may comprise a handle (10) operatively coupled to an axle (14) for being extended to its latched position and retracted to its unlatched position by operation of the handle (10). The handle may comprise an angled portion (10A) to improve access to the fingers of the user's hand.

    • A lock including a frame, a handle operated latch bolt, a handle shaft, a latch bolt actuating mechanism and a mechanism for locking the handle shaft. The latch bolt locking mechanism includes a locking lever which is fixed with respect to the handle shaft and arranged to cooperate with a stop element on the frame. The latch bolt locking mechanism further includes an electromagnet which moves the locking lever with respect to the handle shaft or the stop element with respect to the frame so that the locking lever can be unlocked and locked behind the stop element. The locking device, which is either formed by the locking lever or by the stop element, is movable by the electromagnet in a direction forming an angle greater than about 45°, preferably greater than about 65°, with a flat plane extending at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the handle shaft. A more reliable locking and unlocking of the handle shaft can be produced.

    • A lock mechanism for use with lever handles includes a lock core and a latch mechanism that is rigidly connected to the lock core to prevent the lock core from rotating in the door. Through-bolts are not needed, allowing a small diameter rose to be used. Stops and a spring return mechanism are entirely located within the lock core, allowing the rose to be thin. The lock core defines the rest position for the lever handles at an angle slightly above horizontal. To avoid the necessity for producing different locks in left and right-hand configurations, the lock core is made substantially symmetrical about a vertical plane, instead of a horizontal plane, and the inner and outer sides of the lock mechanism can be interchanged. A heavy-duty locking piece, including a pair of locking lugs that directly engage the lock core near its inner perimeter, allow the lock to withstand abusive forces applied through the lever handle. Endplay is nearly completely eliminated to provide a quality feel through the use of collars that connect the interchangeable inner and outer sides of the lock to the lock core.

    • A convertible door lock latch mechanism designed in a first embodiment as a new dead latch assembly and easily converted to a second embodiment as a spring latch assembly. The dead latch assembly comprises a drawbar, slidably attached to a bolt by a dead latch stop, and a dead latch plunger, all housed in a bolt housing. The bolt and the dead latch are biased in an extended position at least partly protruding from said bolt housing. The dead latch assembly is easily converted to a spring latch assembly by removing the dead latch plunger, removing the dead latch plunger spring, and removing the dead latch stop. A pull component is then attached to the bolt. The convertible door lock latch mechanism also provides an optional restore component which causes retraction of a drawbar when a bolt of the door lock latch mechanism is depressed. The door latch assembly utilizes a restore component positioned between a drawbar and a bolt of the latch assembly. The new convertible door lock latch mechanism is also incorporated in a new hybrid lock architecture designed to incorporate the functionality of a cylindrical lock architecture with the ease of installation of a tubular lock architecture.
