    • A handle set includes a handle assembly having an operator, a rose insert, and a shank having a bore. The rose insert has a central opening and a post. The shank is affixed to the operator and rotatably received in the central opening. A rotational stop is coupled to the rose insert. A spindle guide is slidably received in the bore and is slidable between a locked position and an unlocked position. A kick-off plate having a retention slot is coupled to the spindle guide. A centralizing cup having a single multi-function tang and a lock retention feature is mounted to the shank. The multi-function tang is configured for rotation along a rotational path, the rotation being limited by the rotational stop. The lock retention feature is positioned to engage the retention slot when the spindle guide is in the locked position to thereby retain it in the locked position.

    • A latch assembly is operated by either pushing or pulling against the end of, displacing a given amount of longitudinal travel, a spindle which has a helically formed portion of a given length engaged by congruently formed cam aperture surfaces. The cam is rotatably positioned with respect to and in engagement with the spindle. A rollback is contacted by one of two lobe surfaces of the cam, one corresponding to a pull of the spindle, the other corresponding to a push upon the spindle from the opposed end, the cam rotating in alternate directions. The rollback may be of a single piece with the latch member which is slidably held by the frame of the latch assembly. Biasing of the latch into an extended position and limiting the travel allowed the spindle with positive stops along with biasing of the spindle is suggested such that the normal, extended latch position has one spindle end which may only be pushed against the biasing through the given amount of travel, thus effecting unfastening of the closure and facilitating opening of the closure as well with a single motion; the opposed spindle end may only be pulled, against the same bias, through the travel and similarly effect unfastening and opening of the closure with a single motion. Locking of the assembly is suggested, preferably by disengagement of the rollback from the cam as opposed to interposition of a member inhibiting spindle travel.

    • A lockset for a door has a strike on the door frame and a latch bolt on the door panel. The latch bolt is reciprocable and is projected by a spring and preferably has a deadlatch operation. The latch bolt is retractable by rotation of an inner knob or of an outer knob. The outer knob is locked by a key lock controlling an axially movable plate engaged with the outer knob and interengageable with an outer escutcheon adjacent the outer knob. The key lock can move the plate out of engagement with the outer escutcheon and into engagement with the inner knob. A turn button in the inner knob can also move the axially movable plate.

    • A mechanism which may be added to existing conventional type cylindrical door locks at the time of manufacture thereof or to such locks already in the field with just a slight modification of the existing lock. The structure of the added security mechanism blocks the throw of the latch bolt and at the same time blocks the retractor to positively prevent opening of the lock by key, turning of the knob, or tampering with the latch. The security device is tamperproof as it is inserted into the interior of the cylindrical lock and can only be disengaged to allow entry from inside the building structure. The lock cannot be opened from the exterior of the door when the security device is engaged, by any conventional method or tampering. The mechanism includes a shaft or rod having an actuating knob on one end thereof which is removable for installation of the device and a guide and alignment pin together with an operating and blocking shaft with projecting wings on a plate member for engagement and disengagement with the latch of the conventional cylindrical lock. A special retaining and bias spring is mounted in appropriate holes in the lock device. A modified cover plate is also required which has a diamond-shaped aperture of sufficient size to receive the rod shaft, guiding pin, and retaining spring member.
