    • A steam separator achieves primary separation by directing the flow of a steam-water mixture against a baffle. The baffle redirects the flow so that the steam-water mixture is directed toward the surface of accumulated water ordinarily present in the separator. The liquid components of the steam-water mixture collect on the baffle and drip down into the accumulated water. The steam components pass around the edge of the baffle and escape upwardly. To improve the effectiveness of the separator, the edge of the baffle is extended below the water surface and openings or gables are formed in the baffle above the level of the water surface. The spaces between the gables provide a surface along which the separated liquid water component can flow undisturbed into the accumulated water, and the gables provide ports through which the steam component can escape from the baffle without reentraining significant amounts of the separated liquid water component.

    • An apparatus for separating liquid from a liquid containing gas flow, in which between a coarse separator and a fine separator arranged in a container there is provided an annular chamber with at least one connection for the gas flow, said annular chamber being closed at the top and open at the bottom and communicating with a central passage closed at the top. Within the region where the annular chamber communicates with the central passage there is provided a deviating body defining with the adjacent container wall and the coarse separator nozzle-shaped passages, while the central passage above the annular chamber is, at least partly, defined by flow guiding and distributing elements between which nozzle-shaped passages lead to the fine separator.

    • A primary vapor-liquid separator apparatus having two cyclonic stages of separation which operate in series to remove successive fractions of liquid from an inflowing vapor-liquid mixture. The first separating stage has a vertical, annular flow channel in which swirl vanes are installed to impart a whirling motion to the inflowing mixture to centrifugally separate therefrom the first fraction of liquid which is removed through a skimming slot opening within the flow channel wall. The second stage of separation is a tangential inlet cyclone mounted superjacent the first stage which allows the separated vapor to leave the second stage in an upwardly directed flow path coaxially aligned with that of the inflowing mixture to the first stage, while the separated liquid is discharged from the bottom of the cyclone into a collecting chamber from whence it passes to mix with the first separated liquid fraction within the water space of a steam generator.

    • A structure for increasing the separation capacity of a centrifugal-force separator for separating water from a steamwater mix includes a separator having a cylindrical turbulence chamber, and an inlet in the chamber for receiving the mix therein and for directing the same tangentially along the inner wall of the chamber and imparting to the mix a spin motion for separating the water from the mix and for forming a funnel-like figure of steam. The chamber has an axial outlet in the upper region thereof for passing the steam therefrom and a water outlet in the lower region thereof for passing the water therefrom. The structure has a dish-like plate disposed coaxially with respect to the chamber at the lower region thereof for stabilizing the funnel-like figure.

    • A water-separator-superheater structure includes a horizontally disposed casing having a drum-shaped configuration into which wet steam is admitted at the bottom portion of the drum. The wet steam is caused to flow upwardly at an angle through a plurality of horizontally disposed wire netting mattresses arranged in superposed stepped relation which serve to separate out the moisture which drains off through the bottom of the casing, and the dried steam then passes through a tube type superheater to a discharge outlet. The tubes of the superheater between which the dried steam passes are disposed at a steeply inclined angle in order to promote self-draining.
