    • A steam separator comprises an outer main swirler and an inner auxiliary swirler which is smaller than the main swirler. The swirlers are provided so as to be concentric on the inner wall at the lower side of the first stage inner cylinder. In the steam separator, when the gas-liquid two-phase flow which flows in the vicinity of the axial center of the first stage inner cylinder passes the auxiliary swirler, it is separated into steam and water by the centrifugal force. The separated water (droplets) is introduced into the main swirler. When the separated water (droplets) passes the main swirler, it is separated at the inner wall side of the first stage inner cylinder by the centrifugal force.Pressure loss in a steam separator is reduced and steam separation capability is increased without increasing the moisture from the steam separator.

    • The invention relates to a device for separating water and steam at the outlet of a vaporization vessel of a recycling steam generator. The device constitutes an assembly of vertical cylindrical tubes enclosing the deflector elements enabling the separation of water and steam. These vertical separators or cyclones are grouped in sub-assemblies. Each of the cyclones of a sub-assembly is fixed to the upper portion of a common support structure, comprising from below upwards a tubular column fixed vertically on the upper portion of the vaporization vessel and a structure in the form of an upwardly flared vessel, in communication with the tubular column and with the cyclones fixed at its upper portion. The separation device is thus constructed in modular form. The invention is particularly applicable to steam generators of pressurized water nuclear reactors.

    • Apparatus for drying the steam of a steam-water mix generated by a steam generator has an axial cyclone arranged above the steam generator for separating at least a portion of the water from the steam-water mix so as to yield separated water and a remaining steam-water mix and for passing the water and the remaining mix in an upward direction. A plurality of counter-flow cyclones for receiving therein the separated water separated from the mix in said axial cyclone are also provided and each of the counter-flow cyclones has a wall defining a turbulence chamber, a tube extending into the chamber, and inlet guide vanes disposed concentric to the tube for imparting a spin motion to the separated water for separating the latter into water and clarified steam in the chamber. A tornado-flow separator for separating the remaining mix into additional water and clarified steam is disposed above and coaxial with the axial cyclone. The tornado-flow separator has a lower axial inlet for admitting the remaining mix as well as having an upper outlet for discharging clarified steam. The tornado-flow separator also has an upper auxiliary gas inlet coaxial with the upper outlet for admitting the clarified steam separated in the counter-flow cyclones.

    • A steam generator system for a pressurized water reactor which employs an external to containment steam drum and recirculation loop piping. The steam generator system changes the arrangement of a typical pressurized water reactor recirculation steam generator by relocating the functions of steam separation and feedwater preheating outside of the reactor coolant system. The steam generator system and thermal hydraulic conditions are selected in order to minimize the size of the steam generator heat exchanger component volume inside of the containment. The external steam drum component can be isolated in accident conditions when desired and is used as a source of secondary fluid inventory for improved decay heat removal capability and tolerance for loss of feedwater events. Thus, the steam generator component volume inside of the containment is reduced and the amount of maintenance required for the reactor coolant system components are similarly reduced.

    • A cyclone separator for phase separation of a fluid stream has a rotationally symmetrical housing with a hollow chamber. Feed lines feed the fluid stream into the housing substantially tangentially. At least one discharge line conducts the separated gaseous fraction. In order to ensure uniform and homogeneous flow distribution of the steam to be heated as it enters the heating phase, the hollow chamber, when viewed in the radial direction from the mid-axis, has an outflow chamber with a circular cross section and, in radial sequence, a heating chamber, an intermediate chamber, a dryer chamber and an inflow chamber. The inflow chamber is outwardly delimited by the housing. The heating chamber contains heating elements for heating the gaseous fraction. At least one fine separator and at least one associated condensate-collecting trough are arranged in the dryer chamber. The condensate-collecting trough is connected to a condensate discharge pipe in the intermediate chamber for conducting the condensate forming in the fine separator out of the hollow chamber.

    • Recirculation-type steam generator ensuring heat transfer between a fluid circulating in a primary circuit and a fluid circulating in a secondary circuit, constituted by a pressure envelope containing a vaporization enclosure having a roof and covering a bundle of tubes traversed by the primary fluid.
