    • An apparatus for measuring an inner diameter of a pipeline is incorporated into a passage pig for checking passableness through the pipeline or a cleaning pig for cleaning within the pipeline, the passage pig and the cleaning pig including at least one seal cup sealably sliding along an interior surface of the pipeline.     • An apparatus for monitoring level variations in a given orientation of a structure, comprises a support portion secured to a structure to be monitored as a function of the given orientation in an adjustable position with respect to the horizon. A balancing arm hangs from the support portion in a resting position with respect to the horizon with one rotational degree of freedom being provided between the support portion and the balancing arm, such that a level variation in the given orientation of the structure causes the balancing arm to tend toward the resting position due to gravitational force A retaining member interrelates the balancing arm to the support portion, the retaining member retaining the balancing arm in the resting position. Sensors are positioned on the retaining member and are wired to a control system to measure strain of the retaining member resulting from the balancing arm tending toward the resting position, to quantify the level variation in the given orientation.

    • A magnetic amplifier employing a single four-legged ferrite core having orthogonally disposed through holes in the core. Biasing is provided of the magnetic core so as to provide operation in the non-linear parts of the core's hysteresis cycle. A first coil on the ferromagnetic core has an AC excitation signal applied thereto and a second coil on the core is wound orthogonally to the first coil and is adapted to have an output signal derived therefrom. A control or input current in a third coil is used to unbalance the magnetic bridge formed by the four legs, so as to produce a mutual inductance different from zero between the first and second coil. The biasing may be provided by a fourth coil or by permanent magnet means.

    • Wheel alignment testing apparatus is shown for use with the wheels of a motor vehicle. This apparatus is adapted for use with the racks of an alignment machine. A remote monitoring console would be provided with gauges for recording the reading of caster, camber, toe and turning radius angles of both front wheels of the vehicle. The apparatus includes two units, one unit for each front wheel. Each unit has a stationary base and a wheel-supporting platform or turntable with front and rear rails for centering the center of the wheel on the vertical turning axis of the turntable. A cross-bar transducer is supported from the turntable, and it is provided with electrical strain gauges at both the front and rear of the wheel for sensing either a positive or negative caster angle, as well as at both the left and right sides of the wheel for sensing either a positive or negative camber angle. In order to measure the toe angle of the wheel, a light transmitter means is mounted on either the base or the turntable, and a cooperating optical receiving means is mounted on the opposite member so that the angular movement of the turntable relative to the base will be sensed and displayed at the remote monitoring console as the toe angle of the wheel. The turning radius of the two front wheels relative to each other may also be measured readily.

    • A system to measure alignment between interfacing edges of a plurality of mirror segments positioned to form a segmented mirror surface, comprising strain gauge means having a bending beam with four piezoresistive elements coupled across the interfaces of the edges of adjacent mirror segments. The bending beam has a first position corresponding to alignment of the edges of adjacent mirror segments, and it is bendable from the first position in a direction and to a degree dependent upon the relative misalignment between the edges of adjacent mirror segments to correspondingly vary the resistance of the strain gauge means. A source of power and an amplifier are connected in circuit with the strain gauge means whereby the output of the amplifier varies according to the misalignment of the edges of adjacent mirror segments.

    • An analog computer which determines the state of stress at a point on the surface of a body from data produced by a standard three-gage delta rosette. The computer solves this problem by use of an analog of Mohr circles rather than by direct solution of the rosette equations. Its circuit includes a circular potentiometer with two rotatable output contacts 90* apart which is interconnected at preselected points to a resistance triangle whose vertices correspond to those of the delta rosette. The normal and associated shear stress are available at these contacts when taken with respect to appropriate potential levels. Provision is included for changing one of these levels so that the computer may be utilized with materials having different Poisson''s ratios.
