摘要： A method for repairing an aged asphalt pavement is provided. The method involves passing an emitter over the aged asphalt pavement, wherein the emitter generates electromagnetic radiation having a wavelength of from 20 microns to 1 mm that penetrates into the pavement to a depth of at least 2 inches. The asphalt pavement is repaired by disturbing voids and interstices in the damaged pavement without dehydrogenation of the asphalt, such that oligomers present in the aged asphalt are linked together into longer polymer chains to improve ductility of the aged asphalt.

The HALO system is suitable for rejuvenating aged asphalt, thereby improving properties of the paving material.

The method also relates to treating aqueous fluid in applications where it is desired to use a certain amount of heat input to achieve a higher temperature for the fluid or where it is desired to achieve a certain temperature for the fluid using a lesser amount of heat input or to accelerate fluid heating. The treatment comprises directly injecting into the fluid electromagnetic radiation, most preferably electromagnetic radiation having a frequency between 1 KHz and 1000 MHz. In the most preferred embodiment, electromagnetic radiation is injected through a conductor directly in contact with the fluid.

摘要： A mold, having a mold cavity commensurate with the shaping, forming or welding to be made, includes an RF energized heater in close proximity to the mold cavity for heating plastic tubing placed within the mold cavity to a temperature sufficient to shape, form or weld the plastic tubing. An RF generator, electrically connected to the RF energized heater, monitors the power applied as a function of the temperature of the heater to heat the plastic tubing to a precise temperature. The mold is of thin wall construction with minimal thermal inertia to expedite both heating and cooling. Various configurations of the mold may be made to form tip shaping, forming or welding, butt welds, annular welds and the like to weld single thermoformable elements or join multiple thermoformable elements.

摘要： Method and apparatus for dissipating high frequency electromagnetic energy inside a material. The apparatus comprises a conductive jacket defining a resonant chamber, a coil inside said chamber connected to a coaxial cable supplied by a high frequency generator, the frequency of which is equal to the resonant frequency of the chamber. The impedance of the resonator and its contents is matched to that of the coaxial cable. Automatic means may be provided for altering the resonator impedance to compensate for changes in load impedance.
