    • A system for adapting a transmission rate of an audio signal transmitted over a TDM communications link from a source to a destination includes a first variable-depth storage component and a first processor at the source, and a second variable-length storage component and a second processor at the destination. The first storage component stores the audio signal, and the first processor selectively withdraws the signal from the first storage component. The first processor encapsulates the signal into packets and transmits the packets via the TDM link. The second processor receives the packets, removes the audio signal, and deposits the signal into the second variable-depth storage component. The first processor selectively withdraws the audio signal as a function of the amount of data in the first storage component, and the second processor selectively withdraws the audio signal as a function of an amount of data in the second storage component.

    • A content provider (100) generates broadcast and point-to-point communications and transmits the communications to a subscriber device via a transport medium (105). A broadcast communication is transmitted to all subscriber devices (110, 115, 120, 125) of the transport medium (105) simultaneously. A point-to-point communication is transmitted specifically between the content provider (100) and the subscriber device (110), where only the content provider (100) and the subscriber device (110) have access to the point-to-point communication. Both broadcast and point-to-point communications are received at the subscriber device. The content of the broadcast communication is combined with content of the point-to-point communication to create a combined communication. The combined communication is presented to a subscriber in a unified presentation.

    • A transmission apparatus used for transmitting a question to a recipient. Generates a control signal for limiting an answer-inputting function of a reception apparatus used by the recipient; adds the control signal generated by a generation mechanism and used for limiting the answer-inputting function of the reception apparatus and an address of a recipient reception collector unit showing a collection destination of where an answer entered by said recipient in response to the question is transmitted when an amount of recipient responses stored in a storage unit exceeds a predetermined number.
