    • A system, apparatus and method for a multi-stage Parallel Residue Compensation (PRC) receiver for enhanced suppression of the Multiple Access Interference (MAI) in Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) systems. The accuracy of the interference estimation is improved with a set of weights computed from an adaptive Normalized Least Mean Square (NLMS) algorithm. In order to reduce complexity, the commonality of the multi-code processing is extracted and used to derive a structure of PRC to avoid direct interference cancellation. The derived PRC structure reduces the interference cancellation architecture from a complexity that is proportional to the square of the number of users to a complexity that is linear with respect to the number of users. The complexity is further reduced by replacing dedicated multiplier circuits with simple combinational logic.

    • A channel estimation method for multiple code-sets in a time-slotted CDMA system. The method includes: A) performing a single code-set channel estimation of the received signal of each code-set, respectively, to obtain an original channel estimation, and deciding whether the desired number of iterations is reached; if yes, outputting each single code-set channel estimate; otherwise, going to Step B; B) performing limited time decision for the original channel estimates, retaining taps of channel estimation that meet a certain condition, recovering the interference caused by the response of each code-set using the tap values; canceling the interference caused by the response of other code-sets in the received signal of each code-set to obtain a clean signal of each code-set; taking the clean signal of each code-set as the said received signal of each code-set; and returning to Step A. The method solves the channel estimation problem caused by response signals of multiple code-sets and improves performance of single-code-set channel estimation.

    • Interference cancellation is performed in a CDMA receiver by projecting a received signal onto a subspace that is orthogonal to a signal selected for removal. An interference matrix or a combined interference vector is used to construct an interference-canceling projection operator. Confidence weights may be provided to components of the interference matrix or the interference vector based on estimation errors or relative strengths of interfering signals. Complexity reduction of the orthogonal projection operator may be achieved by providing for simplifying approximations that remove terms and operations. A linear transformation operator may be applied to the rows and/or columns of the interference matrix or the interference vector prior to construction of the orthogonal projection. Interference cancellation techniques may be configured for processing signals in a transmit-diversity system or a receive-diversity system using time and/or frequency-domain implementations and space and/or wave-number implementations of the transceiver.

    • A multi-user CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) interference canceller includes a coefficient output section and a plurality of stages. The coefficient output section dynamically determines a weight coefficient based a reception state of each of a plurality of user signals of a reception signal. Each of the plurality of stages other than the last stage includes a first interference estimating section and a synthesizing unit. The first interference estimating section is provided for each of the plurality of user signals. Also, the first interference estimating section outputs a symbol replica for a next stage and a user reproduction signal for the corresponding user signal based on a symbol replica received from a previous stage, an input signal and a weight coefficient for the corresponding user signal. The synthesizing unit outputs a residual signal for the next stage based on the input signal and the user reproduction signals. The last stage includes a second interference estimating section provided for each of the plurality of user signals. The second interference estimating section outputs a final user reproduction signal based on the symbol replica from the previous stage for the corresponding user signal and the input signal.
