    • A method of controlling operation of a multi-phase induction motor may include transmitting a low-speed operation signal by a master computer to a control signal board for low-speed operation of the motor; the control signal board receiving the low-speed operation signal, and in response to the low-speed operation signal, the control signal board sensing that the master computer is not simultaneously transmitting a high-speed operation signal, and in response to receiving the low-speed operation signal and not simultaneously receiving the high-speed operation signal, closing contactors in a power section to transmit power to the motor for low-speed operation, whereby the motor is connected to a source of multi-phase power and operates at low-speed; and the control signal board transmitting a first feedback signal to the master computer that the motor is connected to the source of multi-phase power and is running at low speed.

    • A motor drive circuit comprises a motor having a plurality of phases, a switching circuit comprising a plurality of electrical switches, a motor current controller that generates voltage demand signals to be passed to a drive circuit for the switches that in turn generate pulse width modulated switching signals for the switching circuit that cause the switches to selectively connect the phases to a power supply so as to cause current to flow through the phases of the motor, and a motor torque controller that produces a demand signal that is fed to an input of the current controller, the motor current controller responding to an error signal that is at least partially dependent on the value of the demand signal. The torque controller in use updates the demand signal at a first sample rate. The motor drive circuit further comprises a downsampling circuit that in use modifies the demand signal under certain operating conditions so that the demand signal is only updated at a second sample rate that is lower than the first rate.

    • The method is capable of equalizing time lengths of stopping a motor at load-holding stop positions of respective phases so as to average amounts of heat generation of phase coils. The method for drive-controlling electric machinery, in which a multiphase motor is used as a driving source of an assist mechanism, is performed by a control unit including a driving circuit for driving the multiphase motor. The method is characterized in that the control unit controls to stop a rotor at a load-holding stop position, at which rotation of the rotor is stopped in a state where a motor coil is energized and the rotor is in a load-holding state, and that the load-holding stop position is angularly shifted an electric angle of 180/n (n is number of phases and an integer two or more) degrees, in a prescribed rotational direction, with respect to a previous load-holding stop position of the rotor.
