    • A method and system for estimating slip gain for use in the control of torque in a multi-phase induction machine. The slip gain estimate is based on a transient response of the induction machine to torque command changes. The invention is independent of machine parameters other than the slip gain. The method uses a slip gain estimation algorithm that is suited for use either as a self-calibration procedure or a background procedure that continually updates the slip gain during normal operation of the induction machine. The estimation method of the invention is suited for automotive driveline applications, which typically have limited sensor capability and which may present tuning problems associated with high volume production and with slip gain estimates when temperature changes during normal operation.

    • A control system for an AC induction motor, comprising a stator, a rotor, at least two stator windings and rotor windings. The control system comprises a first vector rotator for rotating control signals with a first angle (.alpha.) for providing output signals connected to frequency inverters for providing drive signals to each stator winding of the motor, said first angle (.alpha.) being the time integral of a rotation frequency (w). Moreover, the control system comprises a second vector rotator for counterrotating measured drive voltages and/or currents with a second angle (-.alpha.) which is the inverse of said first angle (.alpha.). The rotation frequency (w) is controlled in dependence of said counterrotated measured voltages and/or currents essentially for maintaining the amplitude of said magnetizing currents (Im) of each stator winding constant which is a necessary condition for obtaining Natural Field Orientation.

    • To assure the commutatibility of an intermediate circuit converter with an impressed intermediate circuit d.c. current it is sufficient to limit the rate of rise of the intermediate circuit current under operating conditions to the product f*. i* from the current and frequency of the converter. A rate of rise limited in such a fashion to a maximum value reflecting operating conditions can be preset to a rate of change limiter using a rate of rise limiting controller to which the preset maximum value as well as the rate of rise of the control value for the intermediate circuit current itself has been preset. For that purpose a current controller, whose output signal are connected to suitable control values, assures an immediate control of the intermediate circuit current to the current reference value which has been limited in its rate of rise.
