    • The invention provides a sheet conveyance apparatus for conveying an original document sheet onto a platen glass through which the sheet is irradiated by light. The sheet conveyance apparatus having a driving means capable of moving conveyor belt in both directions so that, by moving the conveyor belt to the first-moving direction, the sheet is fed onto through the first side and carried away from through the second side of the platen glass. A delivery tray is mounted above the platen glass so that the sheet is delivered through first turning passage from the second side of the platen glass to the delivery tray. Between the conveyor belt and the delivery tray is provided a second turning passage so that the sheet is returned through the second turning passage from the first turning passage to the second side of the platen glass.

    • An automatic document feeder includes a separating roller disposed adjacent to one end of a table on which a stack of documents to be fed is placed for separating the bottom-most document from the stack. The feeder also includes a feed roller which is fixedly mounted on a first shaft on which the separating roller is fixedly mounted. A friction roller is rotatably supported as being pressed against the separating roller and a transport roller is rotatably provided as being pressed against the feed roller. The separating and feed rollers are provided coaxially, but they are comprised of different materials to provide a stable document feeding operation. The separating roller is preferably comprised of a rubber material having a hardness ranging from 25 to 30 degrees, and the feed roller is preferably comprised of a chloroprene material having a hardness on the order of 60 degrees. If the separating roller is split into two sub-rollers spaced apart axially, the feeder is preferably provided with an auxiliary roller in the space between the sub-rollers and coaxially with the transport roller so as to provide a smooth feed operation irrespective of the thickness of the document.

    • A multi-mode copying apparatus includes a contact glass on which an original is placed facing downward, a scanning unit for scanning along the contact glass, a photosensitive drum, imaging unit for forming a copy image on the drum, at least one cassette for storing therein a quantity of copy sheets, a size detector for detecting the length of the copy sheets stored in the cassette, and a control system for controlling the operation of the apparatus in accordance with the length information detected by the size detector. In one mode of operation, the control system divides the original surface into two original surface sections, i.e., left and right half sections, based on the length information supplied from the size detector, and copies are produced from at least one of the left and right half sections using a home position of the scanning unit as a reference for each copying operation.

    • In a conveyor device for conveying sheet material in sheet or web form, two pairs of conveyor rollers are spaced apart with their axes parallel to one another, each pair including a deformable roller cooperating with a substantially non-deformable conveyor roller, and the two pairs of rollers are driven by a non-deformable drive roller which is mounted for rotation about a fixed axis disposed between them, with the deformable conveyor roller of each pair pressed against its cooperating non-deformable conveyor roller and also against the drive roller so that compensating differences of peripheral speed occur at the two pressure nips of each deformable conveyor roller.
