摘要： A bullet having a generally cup-shaped jacket, a core disposed inside the jacket, and partially divided into a plurality of segments by a plurality of slits formed therein is mounted at the front of the jacket. A tip is mounted in the core. The tip has a plurality of notches formed its forwardly facing ogival surface; each notch having a forward end adjacent the forward end of the tip, and a rear end rearward of the rearwardly facing shoulder and the front end of the jacket, so that material from the target can enter the jacket and help open the jacket and release the core.

摘要： Aspects of the disclosure are directed to manufacturing an insert-molded expanding projectile. Aspects of the disclosure include locating a portion of a projectile body within a converging tip mold, the projectile body including a metal jacket extending from a tail portion to a nose portion and surrounding an interior solid core. The metal jacket and nose portion may be tapered in a forward direction to an annular forward edge defining an opening to an undercut interior cavity. Melted polymer may be injected into the converging tip mold and allowed to cool thereby forming a polymer tip having a main portion forward of the opening and a tip retention portion filling the undercut interior cavity and having a shape corresponding to the undercut interior cavity to retain the polymer tip in place.

摘要： Techniques and architecture are disclosed for a nose insert for use in a projectile. The nose insert includes a polymer nose element and a metal cap. The polymer nose element includes a rear shank portion and a tapered head portion. Disposed onto the tapered head portion of the polymer nose is the metal cap. The metal includes an outer curved portion that terminates at a forward end in a meplat. In some embodiments, the metal cap prevents deformation of the polymer nose element caused by high stagnation temperatures experienced by the projectile during flight. In some other embodiments, the metal cap includes a locking ridge. The locking ridge is disposed on an inner surface of the metal cap component and interfaces with an outer surface of the tapered head portion of the polymer nose element.

The drive band may have forward edge defining a step. The bullet of the present invention may also be received in the case mouth of a rimless case and be partially protruding therefrom.

A plurality of stress risers may be formed in the core, each stress riser extending from the cavity to a v-shaped channel in coincidence with a point of the cross-section shape of the cavity.

摘要： A jacketed bullet and high-speed method of manufacturing jacketed bullets are provided. The method includes the steps of providing tubing and inserting a wire into the tubing to form composite tubular stock. The inner surface of the tubing is bonded to the outer surface of the inserted wire to form bonded tubular stock. After the bonding step, an inner diameter of the tubing is substantially equal to the wire diameter such that, when viewed in section, the wire completely fills the tubing. After the bonding step, the bonded tubular stock is cut to form work-pieces of a desired length. The workpieces are then warm or cold forged to form jacketed bullets.
