摘要： A gas turbine and nozzle system is provided that includes a radial inflow turbine rotor and a volute providing a flow path to deliver a pressurized gas to a circumference of the radial turbine rotor. The volute incorporates a shape which substantially conforms to a radial turbine shroud contour. The volute includes at least first and second parts. A mating surface between the first and second parts is substantially aligned with a direction of pressurized gas flow in the volute.

摘要： A turbine blade of ceramic matrix composite material construction adapted for use in a gas turbine engine is disclosed. The turbine blade includes a root, an airfoil, and a platform. The root is adapted to attach the turbine blade to a disk. The airfoil is shaped to interact with hot gasses moving through the gas path of a gas turbine engine and cause rotation of the turbine blade when the turbine blade is used in a gas turbine engine. The platform is arranged between the root and the airfoil and is shaped to block gasses from the gas path migrating toward the root when the turbine blade is used in a gas turbine engine.

A method for redundant cooling of the turbine apparatus is disclosed including flowing a cooling fluid from the cooling fluid source through at least one first article cooling channel, exhausting the cooling fluid from the at least one first article cooling channel into at least one second article cooling channel, and flowing the cooling fluid through the at least one second article cooling channel.

The turbine component includes ceramic matrix composite plies and a feature configured for preventing interlaminar tension of the ceramic matrix composite plies. The feature is selected from the group consisting of ceramic matrix composite tows or precast insert tows extending through at least a portion of the ceramic matrix composite plies, a woven fabric having fiber tows or a precast insert preventing contact between a first set of the ceramic matrix composite plies and a second set of the ceramic matrix composite plies, and combinations thereof. The process includes laying up ceramic matrix composite plies in a preselected arrangement and securing a feature configured for interlaminar tension.

The propellant tank is in fluid communication with the propellant heater and is configured for providing a flow of propellant to the propellant heater. The propellant heater is in fluid communication with the propellant tank and the nozzle and initially comprises a supply of oxidizer that is configured for reacting chemically with the propellant to produce heat. The propellant heater is further configured for receiving a beam of microwave energy and facilitating transmission of the beam of microwave energy to the propellant. The nozzle is in fluid communication with the propellant heater and is configured for receiving a flow of propellant from the propellant heater, for accelerating the propellant, and for expelling the propellant so as to produce thrust.

The first surface is in fluid communication with a compressed, dry fluid, and the second surface is in fluid communication with a wet fluid stream and includes a hermetic coating. The components further include at least one opening extending from the first surface through a portion of the CMC substrate, wherein, upon removal of a fragment of one or both of the hermetic coating and the CMC substrate, the at least one opening selectively permits a flow of the compressed, dry fluid to the second surface. In one embodiment, the component is a gas turbine component, the wet fluid stream is a hot combustion stream, the hermetic coating is an environmental barrier coating, and the flow reduces or eliminates volatilization of the CMC substrate. Methods for forming the components are also disclosed.
