    • In its preferred embodiment, the improved frame-supported membrane has a membrane of light-gauge, corrosion resistant nickel alloy construction, this membrane being suspended within a base-supported frame. The membrane-to-frame hanger is designed for easy installation and provides for radial expansion of the membrane relative to the frame, yet restrains the membrane against implosive force and earthquake shear. For some installations, the improved frame-supported membrane may constitute the chimney without need for there being further provided a circumferentially surrounding masonry chimney column. In any event such a masonry chimney column if provided may serve primarily merely as a wind shield for the improved frame-supported membrane.

    • A chimney lining system is disclosed, in which a membrane, typically 60 mils thick, of corrosion-resistant alloy material is suspended within an external skeletal frame-work of less-expensive carbon steel. Hangers provide for radial expansion of the liner. However, inward movement of the hangers is restrained. Axially spaced circumferential corrugations located midway axially between where two membrane sections are stiffened, joined and connected to the framework, provide for axial expansion. The external framework is disposed within a tubular concrete chimney column. At several levels, grillages support the external framework from the wall of the chimney column. The structural grillages may bear upon load cells equipped to signal the build-up of sludge on the interior of the liner.

    • A dual wall concrete smokestack having a freestanding flue liner in each flue. The smokestack being constructed of preassembled and precast concrete sections axially stacked one upon the other. The preassembled sections have a precast concrete body having a flue aperture. An inner flue liner is carried within the flue aperture spaced inwardly and concentrically from the wall of the flue aperture. The wall of the flue aperture further having a flue liner stop means. The inner flue liner having a bracket for engaging the flue liner stop means to prevent the flue liner from dropping downwardly and out of the concrete body when being transported to the site of construction. The concrete body further having another aperture to be aligned with a corresponding aperture of an adjacent section for receiving reinforcing rods extending from the bottom of the smokestack to the top of the smokestack and for receiving poured concrete as the smokestack is being erected to tie the sections together.

    • This invention relates to an improved design associated with the fabrication and construction of a chimney stack capable of conveying hot gases generated in conjunction with industrial endeavors to a height within the atmosphere sufficient to meet current pollution standards, as well as providing a means to dampen stack vibrations plus incorporating a heat extracting system capable of providing a secondary source of heat for utilization outside of the stack confines. In accordance with the invention, there is incorporated within one overall design, a stack capable of conveying hot gases wherein there is provided means for selectively adjusting the opening appearing at the top of said stack, so as to maintain control over the gas velocity as well as plume rise of emitted gases. Additionally, there is provided in conjunction with said design, means for dampening the movement of said stack caused by either internal or external forces as well as means for extracting energy from the passage of hot gases through said stack for utilization in external applications. Furthermore, there is additionally incorporated within the overall design, means for converting the solar energy which strikes the exterior surface of the chimney stack into a useable energy form for utilization outside of the chimney stack environment.
