    • The invention discloses an improved seal for providing protection against water, water vapor, and other vapors from entering into and permeating through a concrete slab. The seal includes three primary functional edges extending from a common junction, a first edge positioned substantially horizontally to be moisture proof fastened to a geo-membrane liner over which a slab is to be poured, a second edge extending downwardly to the first edge to be embedded into a foundation, and a third edge extending upwardly from the first edge to be embedded into the slab. The invention applies to both monolithic and non-monolithic pours.

    • The invention relates to a shuttering element for separating a concrete section into concrete subsections. The shuttering element is of strip-like form and is adapted widthwise to the thickness of the concrete section. It comprises at least a strip-like shuttering board which is formed from a thin-walled, sheet-like material, with the result that, once the concrete section has been cast, the shuttering board can remain between the cast concrete subsections. The shuttering board preferably has recesses through which reinforcement struts can engage, with the result that the shuttering element according to the invention can be inserted even when reinforcement struts of a reinforcement are required to cross the shuttering element.

    • Disclosed is an expansion joint apparatus comprising cover plates disposed on two bodies installed across a gap, in a manner openable by hinges, wherein each cover plate is inclined inward of the gap. The sectional shape of the two cover plates in a combined state is approximately in a V-shape. Each cover plate is thrust with a spring in a direction so that each end may approach that of the other, rotating about the hinge as the center. The angular dislocation of each cover plate is limited to the outer side of the gap, thereby always filling up the gap by opening and closing the cover plates in response to a changing gap, if the gap of two bodies should vary, because the cover plates are disposed on the bodies in a manner free to open and close.

    • A wall construction is provided which includes a wall upon which are located siding sections to which are fastened brick sections. The siding sections are arranged in coplanar end-to-end relationship and include abutting ends with nesting tongue and groove arrangements to resist relative transverse movement between the sections. The tongue defines a passage extending transversely across the same. A clip is provided which includes a central portion located between the ends of the siding sections. The central portion extends through the aforementioned passage in the tongue. The clip includes further portions extending in opposite directions from the central portion along opposite sides of the siding sections. A protruding flange is provided which extends outwardly from the first further portion and a settable material is provided adjacent the siding sections. The protruding portion is embedded in the settable material. A further holdback and alignment flange extends from the aforementioned central portion in opposite direction from the first further portion of the clip for holding one of the siding sections against the wall. The method associated with the foregoing structure involves compressing the tongue to form a strengthened compressed portion bordering the aforementioned passage to strengthen the same.
