    • In relation to a sewing machine having a function of rotating a sewing needle in order to prevent occurrence of hitch stitches, there is provided a needle bar that obviates a necessity for an additional rotation mechanism for rotating the sewing needle.A needle bar includes: a needle bar body having a vertically-movable sleeve and a guide bush; a sleeve provided in the needle bar body and having openings, and the like, where balls are to be placed; a cam shaft that has a disc-shaped portion which is provided in the needle bar body, an upper shaft which is provided with a pair of grooves or the like having helical grooves and which is inserted in the sleeve, and a lower shaft which is formed so as to protrude downward from a guide bush; and a joint secured to the lower shaft for securing a sewing needle.

    • A main needle holder is disposed above a needle plate, and has a screw portion for fitting a needle bar. A sub needle holder is fitted to the main needle holder by a set screw so as to be adjustable in position. Fitting position of the sub needle holder to the main needle holder is changed when loosening the screw, so that the interval of the plural needle is widened or narrowed in the longitudinal direction. Plural needles are individually fitted to the needle holders, and penetrate through a needle hole of the needle plate when descending. The fitting position of the sub needle holder to the main needle holder is changed by a longitudinal slit formed linearly on the main needle holder, and the cloth penetration lines by at least two needles of plural needles can be mutually set along in a narrow width.

    • A thread consumption detecting apparatus includes an axial supporting shaft, a detector lever, a torsional spring, a proximity sensor, and a central processing unit (CPU). The detector lever includes an intermediate portion, a loop-shaped thread-contact end, and a base end. The intermediate portion is fitted idly around the supporting shaft so that the detector lever can swing. The thread-contact end is disposed so as to pass a thread outside the loop-shaped portion. The base end is detected by the proximity sensor. A swinging stroke of the detector lever is disposed so as to interfere with a thread-transfer-route variation range resulting from a fluctuation in tension of the thread. The torsional spring urges the detector lever in one swinging direction. The proximity sensor detects the base end on approach when the detector lever is swung by the tension of the thread. The CPU judges whether the thread is consumed or not in accordance with a signal output from the proximity sensor.

    • A device for holding a sewing needle which has a cylindrical shank, an arcuate portion, and a flat wall portion, in a needle bar which has a longitudinally extending receiving groove with a flat interior receiving wall comprising a locking member. The locking member has a longitudinally extending bridge part with outwardly extending arms engageable around at least a portion of the circumference of the needle bar. The arms include an upper abutment arm extending outwardly of said bridge portion into the needle bar groove and defining a stop against which the top of the needle bar is engageable. The construction includes a lower abutment arm extending outwardly from the bridge engageable with an arcuate end over the arcuate portion of the shank so as to hold the flat portion of the shank of the needle on the flat interior receiving wall of the groove.
