The distinct features and the number of fibers in each group of distinguishable identification fibers can represent at least one supply chain component of the fibers. The fiber sample can include a portion of an acetate tow band or a filter made from the acetate tow band, and the supply chain information can include the manufacturer of the acetate tow band and the customer of the acetate tow band.

A multiplicity of filaments are extruded by means of a spinning machine, cooled and subsequently treated by a drawing device and a crimping device to form a crimped thread. Before the thread is wound up to form a bobbin, a multiplicity of intertwining knots is produced on the crimped thread by a treatment device. In order to obtain defined patterns of the intertwining knots within the thread, a pulse sequence of compressed air pulses at a predefined frequency is directed at the thread. The treatment device has a controllable blowing means.

The bulked yarn has excellent texture, lightweight properties, and anti-pilling properties, as well as excellent weaving and knitting properties and productivity. Further, a woven or knit fabric comprising the bulked yarn is more lightweight, more voluminous, softer with an excellent touch, and better in heat-insulating properties and air permeability, has greater anti-pilling properties, sheds no fluff, and has better rapid-drying properties despite having great water absorbency.
