    • A carding machine casing (1) is connected with a suction device (15) for preventing uncontrolled release of fibers and dust into the environment adjacent the machine, and the casing is provided with large suction openings (9, 10) having a combined area of not less than 0.5 m.sup.2 for admitting conveying air to the interior of the casing. The air is sucked in through the large openings at a substantially lower flow speed so that a considerably lower proportion of the airborne particles and fibrous particles occurring in a spinning mill are sucked into the suction device (15). In many cases it is no longer necessary to provide for precise sealing of the casing (1), and it is sometimes feasible to omit the use of a filter cloth over the suction openings (9, 10) or to simplify the maintenance (e.g., cleaning) of the filter.

    • A pneumatic dust collecting system for a fiber processing machine which includes a tank having a chamber therein within which separate streams of dust and reusable fibrous material are received and collected. The tank contains an air expansion compartment adjacent the receiving and collecting chamber and shares a common wall which functions as a filter. A blower assembly is positioned within the tank and is adapted to apply suction to the air expansion compartment so as to draw air from the chamber via the compartment and to force a stream of pressurized air from the tank to an air pressure stabilizing chamber located adjacent one end of the fiber processing machine. An air manifold having a plurality of spaced discharge nozzles is connected to the air pressure stabilizing chamber and is adapted to discharge a blanket of air beneath the machine. A waste material receiving receptacle is positioned adjacent the other end of the fiber processing machine and has an inlet adapted to receive a stream of air, dust and some fibrous material blown into same by the plurality of nozzles. The thus received stream of air, dust and fibrous particles is sucked into the receiving and collecting chamber of the tank. A separate conduit system draws reusable fibers from the fiber processing machine into a separate section of the receiving and collecting chamber of the tank. The various elements constitute an effectively closed recirculating system.

    • A carding machine includes a main carding cylinder having a cylindrical surface carrying a cylinder clothing; a cover arrangement extending along a part of the cylindrical surface at a clearance therefrom to define a space between the cylinder clothing and the cover arrangement; a first opening provided in the cover arrangement and communicating with the space between the cylinder clothing and the cover arrangement; and a device for generating a pressurized air stream. The device communicates with the first opening for introducing the pressurized air stream through the first opening into the space between the cylinder clothing and the cover arrangement to impinge upon the cylinder clothing carrying fiber material thereon. A second opening which is provided in the cover arrangement communicates with the space between the cylinder clothing and the cover arrangement for removing the pressurized air stream, laden with waste material separated from the fiber material.
