    • A fiber cleaning device is provided for use with a carding machine having a rotating clothing cylinder, a housing surrounding the cylinder, and an opening in the housing for removing impurities. The device has a separating knife with a knife edge for locating in the opening and directed counter to a rotational direction of the cylinder, and a pressure regulating element installed downstream, in the rotational direction of the cylinder, of the separating knife. The pressure regulating element is for adjusting a pressure between the housing and the cylinder such that fiber material accumulation on the knife edge is promoted.

    • A mote knife for use with a cleaning system including a rotating cylinder which creates a binary air flow while which entrains a fiber web formed of fibers of various fiber lengths about a circular path. A waste removal duct is arranged adjacent the periphery of the cylinder. A mote knife, which includes a contact surface positioned adjacent the periphery of the cylinder, a front edge located a first distance from the periphery of the cylinder, an intermediate edge located a second distance from the periphery of the cylinder and a rear edge located and a third distance from the periphery of the cylinder. A first channel is formed between the periphery and the front and intermediate edges which converges toward the intermediate edge. A second channel is formed between the periphery and the intermediate and rear edges which diverges toward the rear edge. Rotation of the cylinder creates a venturi effect at the intermediate edge which brings the flow of binary air to its greatest velocity. The air flow leading to the intermediate edge draws loose longer fibers back into the web. The velocity of air flow beyond the intermediate edge drops rapidly allowing dust, trash, and short fibers to lift away from the cylinder due to centrifugal force.

    • The present invention relates to a dust and trash removal system for carding machines or cards including a cylinder and fixedly mounted carding segments cooperating therewith. The system comprises a mote knife having a blade section whose blade is arranged in a direction opposite to the running direction of the cylinder at a small distance from the surface of the cylinder, as well as a hold-down element arranged in the running direction of the cylinder upstream of the mote knife with a base surface that extends substantially in parallel with the surface of the cylinder. To improve the discharging characteristics for dirt particles, short fibers, or the like, the blade, when being viewed in cross-section, has at least one rounded section with a radius greater than 1 mm.

    • A carding machine includes a licker-in and a waste separator cooperating therewith. The waste separator includes first and second plates arranged consecutively along a periphery of the licker-in. The first and second plates are spaced from one another by a clearance constituting a waste outlet opening through which waste is discharged with the aid of a circumferential air stream generated by the rotation of the licker-in. The first and second plates each have a pivotally supported end for adjusting their angular position, whereby a radial distance from the periphery of the licker-in is varied for controlling the discharge of waste through the outlet opening. A nozzle is arranged at the licker-in at a location generally diametrically opposite the waste outlet opening. The nozzle has an outlet aperture merging into a space situated immediately radially outwardly of the periphery of the licker-in. A pressurized air generator, such as a blower, is connected to the nozzle for emitting through the nozzle aperture pressurized air for co-directional propagation with the circumferential air stream generated by the rotation of the licker-in to augment the pressure of the circumferential air stream, whereby discharge of waste through the waste outlet opening is enhanced.
