    • A nozzle array for levitational guidance of web material. The nozzle array includes a sequence of nozzle areas in the transport direction of the web which are peripherally encompassed at least in part by fanned jets and their width varies in the direction transversely to the web transport direction. The nozzle areas may be equipped with orifice nozzles. Located between the nozzle areas are return flow zones which may be configured as return flow passageways open towards the web, whereby their cross-section is flared in the direction of the edges of the nozzle array. The nozzle areas may be v-shaped relative to their longitudinal axis oriented in the transport direction of the web. Clusters of nozzle areas may be arranged juxtaposed as viewed in the web transport direction.

    • A heating system for heat treating a continuous sheet-like material includes an input end and an output end and a path defined therebetween that extends between the input and output ends for the material to be treated. At least one section of the heating system includes an upper movable heater and a lower stationary heater disposed on confrontingly opposite sides of the material path. A heater lifter is connected to the movable upper heater for operatively displacing the upper heater between a first position for imparting a curing type of heat treatment and a second position for imparting an annealing type of heat treatment to the continuous sheet material as it is advanced through the heating system.

    • The present invention relates to method and apparatus for heating a strip of metallic material in a continuous annealing furnace and more particularly to an improvement relating to a method and apparatus for heating a strip of metallic material in a continuous annealing furnace in which annealing of the strip is continuously carried out in such a manner that a gas, serving to adjust temperature of the strip, is blown toward the strip through a plurality of gas jet nozzles which are arranged on one side or both sides of the strip, wherein the temperature and flow rate of the strip are properly determined to a required level in response to the changing of the operating conditions such as the heat cycle, line speed, thickness of strip, width of strip and the like. Further, the present invention relates to a method and apparatus for heating a strip of metallic material in a continuous annealing furnace, wherein the temperature of the strip is controlled to reach a target temperature by heating or cooling the strip by means of a gas jet or the like having excellent respondency at a part of the heating zone in the continuous annealing furnace whereby irregular annealing of the strip is effectively inhibited.

    • Apparatus for conveying strip materials while floating them whereby a strip is allowed to pass between a pair of plenum chambers vertically spaced apart from each other and provided with blowoff openings through which gases are blown against the strip to float it as well as heat or cool the same. After the gases have been blown against the strip, a portion of them streams in one direction crossing the predetermined conveyance course of the strip, while the other portion thereof streams in the opposite direction. A pair of flow-rate control means are provided in conjunction with the plenum chambers and in opposite positions so as to vary the amount of gases streaming in said one direction in relation to that of those streaming in the other direction, when the strip has taken a winding course during conveyance, so that the strip is restored to its predetermined course of conveyance.
