摘要： A method of providing an end-capped tubular ceramic composite for containing nuclear fuel (34) in a nuclear reactor involves the steps of providing a tubular ceramic composite (40), providing at least one end plug (14, 46, 48), applying (42) the at least one end plug material to the ends of the tubular ceramic composite, applying electrodes to the end plug and tubular ceramic composite and applying current in a plasma sintering means (10, 50) to provide a hermetically sealed tube (52). The invention also provides a sealed tube made by this method.

摘要： A sintered ceramic ball is described that includes an incomplete ceramic ball portion with a wall with an exterior surface, the wall having an interior space located radially interior of an inner surface of the wall. The incomplete ceramic ball portion also has an exterior surface, the exterior surface having an exterior surface area. The sintered ceramic ball further includes a ceramic plug joined with the incomplete ceramic ball portion to form a continuous exterior ball surface. The ceramic plug includes an exterior plug surface and a plug wall. The plug surface includes an exterior plug surface area, wherein the exterior plug surface area is between about 5% to 49.9% of the sum of the exterior surface area of the incomplete ceramic ball portion and the exterior plug surface area. The interior space of the sintered ceramic ball is sealed within the wall and the plug wall.

The first component can intersect at least one wall of the second component and the first and second components can be coupled via a ceramic weld. A method of making a support rack can include providing a first component comprising a sintered ceramic material, providing a second component comprising an un-sintered or partially-sintered ceramic material, arranging the first and second component so that the first component intersects at least one wall of the second component, sinter bonding the first and second components together to form a ceramic weld at the intersection. In an embodiment, the support rack can be a piece of kiln furniture.

摘要： A ceramic structure 10 includes a heater electrode 14 within a disk-shaped AlN ceramic substrate 12. The heater electrode 14 contains a metal filler in the main component WC. The metal filler (such as Ru or RuAl) has a lower resistivity and a higher thermal expansion coefficient than AlN. An absolute value of a difference |ΔCTE| between a thermal expansion coefficient of the AlN ceramic substrate 12 and a thermal expansion coefficient of the heater electrode 14 at a temperature in the range of 40° C. to 1000° C. is 0.35 ppm/° C. or less.

摘要： A heat conduction member includes: a cylindrical ceramic body, a metal pipe on the outer periphery side of the cylindrical ceramic body, and an intermediate member held between the cylindrical ceramic body and the metal pipe. The cylindrical ceramic body has passages passing through from one end face to the other end face and allowing the first fluid to flow therethrough. The intermediate member is made of material having at least a part having a Young's modulus of 150 Gpa or less. The first fluid is allowed to flow through the inside of the cylindrical ceramic body while the second fluid having lower temperature than that of the first fluid is allowed to flow on the outer peripheral face side of the metal pipe to perform heat exchange between the first fluid and the second fluid.

The invention also provides a method of heat treating a preform made of powder and using such tooling.

The surface interface of the metal layer is compliant relative to asperities of the surface interface of the CMC component. A coefficient of friction between the surface interface of the CMC component and the metal component is about 1.0 or less at an operating temperature between about 300° C. to about 325° C. and a limiting temperature of the metal component.

摘要： The invention relates to a method for producing a metal-ceramic substrate including first and second metallizations and at least one ceramic layer incorporated between the first and second metallizations. Advantageously, first and second metal layers and the at least one ceramic layer are stacked superposed, and in such a way that the free edge sections, of the first and second metal layers respectively, project beyond the edges of the at least one ceramic layer and the first and second metal layers are deformed toward each other in the region of the projecting free edge sections and directly connected to each other in order to form a gas-tight, sealed metal container enclosing a container interior for receiving the at least one ceramic layer. Subsequently, the metal layers forming the metal container with the at least one ceramic layer received in the container interior are hot isostatically pressed together in a treatment chamber at a gas pressure between 500 and 2000 bar and at a process temperature between 300° C. and the melting temperature of the metal layers for producing a preferably flat connection of at least one of the metal layers and the at least one ceramic layer, and at least the projecting free edge sections, which are connected to each other, of the metal layers for forming the first and second metallization are subsequently removed.

摘要： A hybrid sandwich ceramic matrix composite (CMC) may comprise a first facesheet, a second facesheet, and a core between and bonded to both of the first facesheet and the second facesheet. The first facesheet and the second facesheet may each include filaments in a ceramic matrix. The hybrid sandwich CMC may be configured for exposure to a thermal gradient in which the first facesheet is exposed to a higher temperature environment than the second facesheet. The first facesheet and the second facesheet may have at least closely matching coefficients of thermal expansion, and the first facesheet may have a higher compressive strength than the second facesheet.

摘要： A multi-layered cladding material including a ceramic matrix composite and a metallic material, and a tube formed from the cladding material. The metallic material forms an inner liner of the tube and enables hermetic sealing of thereof. The metallic material at ends of the tube may be exposed and have an increased thickness enabling end cap welding. The metallic material may, optionally, be formed to infiltrate voids in the ceramic matrix composite, the ceramic matrix composite encapsulated by the metallic material. The ceramic matrix composite includes a fiber reinforcement and provides increased mechanical strength, stiffness, thermal shock resistance and high temperature load capacity to the metallic material of the inner liner. The tube may be used as a containment vessel for nuclear fuel used in a nuclear power plant or other reactor. Methods for forming the tube comprising the ceramic matrix composite and the metallic material are also disclosed.
