摘要： There is described a labeling apparatus (1) for applying labels (2) onto a succession of articles (3) and a method of setting-up of said labeling apparatus (1) prior to the application of the labels (2). The labeling apparatus (1) comprises a transfer drum (21) for retaining on its outer surface (22) labels (2), a glue application roller (19) having an outer lateral surface (20) and being configured to apply a pattern of glue onto the labels (2). The transfer drum (21) comprises a plurality of pad assemblies (24) arranged along its outer surface (22) and pad assembly alignment means (42) configured to modify orientation and/or position of each one of the plurality of pad assemblies (24) to a respective working configuration for aligning each one of the plurality of pad assemblies (24) with respect to the outer lateral surface (20) of the glue application roller (19).

摘要： A device for applying glue onto labels, includes a drum rotatable about a predetermined rotational axis and, a glue application unit for applying glue onto an external surface of the rotatable drum. The glue application unit includes a receiving space for receiving the glue as well as a supply unit for applying the glue to the receiving space which is arranged relative to the drum such that any glue present in the glue application unit contacts the drum in a predetermined contact area. The glue application unit includes a first wall element, which contacts the drum during operation, and a second wall element arranged behind the first wall element in the direction of movement of the drum and which also contacts the drum. At least one wall element is elastically pressed against the external surface of the drum.

摘要： A roll-fed labelling machine that can be quickly changed to process containers and labels of different sizes does not require changed cutters to match different label sizes by engaging at least 50% of each label on the vacuum drum before it is cut from the web. Infeed guides and roll-on-pad assemblies, specific to individual container sizes can be installed swiftly by means of fixed alignment pins. The starwheel, having a diameter that is only five times the diameter of the mid-size container that the labelling machine is designed to process reduces abrasion and vibration. Starwheels that are aligned and with preset timing adjustment integral with the starwheel members for each container size are changed quickly to synchronize starwheel timing with that of the labelling machine. A glue applicator has a heater cartridge in the glue bar for warming the glue to a suitable range, while the glue roller has a circumference of not more than nine inches to control thermal losses and to reduce glue "slinging" and glue "stringing."

摘要： A gluing palette for use with apparatus for gluing labels to objects, such as bottles or the like. The palette is intended to coact with a rotary gluing roller so as to be coated with glue and then to transfer glue to a label transported by the palette from a label magazine to a transfer device. The transfer device is intended to take the glue-coated label from the palette and press the label against the object concerned. The palette includes a core (18) and a carrier which is fitted to the core and can be readily detached therefrom. The carrier has the form of an elastic, pliable apron element (21) which will mould itself to the configuration of the core (18) and which is provided with at least one outwardly projecting part (23) made of an elastic material. This outwardly projecting part has a shape which corresponds essentially to the shape of the label to be coated with glue. Projections (22) on the apron element cooperate with recesses (20) on the core to fix the apron element in position and to prevent any lateral stretching of a portion of the apron element relative to the core.

The improvement comprises arranging the components such that the containers carried by the rotatable container transfer drum first contact the adhesive coating drum and subsequently the adhesive coated containers while still carried by the container transfer drum are brought into contact with labels carried by the label supply drum, thereby making it possible to apply labels to containers at high-speeds and to use strong adhesives.
