    • A portable propulsion system for a watercraft may include a shaft, a propeller, an outer casing, and a flexible strap. The shaft may have a prop end section, a drive end section, and a rotational axis extending from the prop end section to the drive end section. The propeller may be connected to the prop end section of the shaft. The drive end section may be configured for removable connection to a driver for rotation of the propeller via rotation of the shaft about the rotational axis to propel the watercraft. The outer casing may be disposed around the shaft. The flexible strap may have first and second end sections connected to the outer casing in respective first and second regions.

    • A portable propelling system including a driver removably coupled to a drive end portion of a shaft, and a propeller connected to a prop end portion of the shaft. The shaft may extend through an outer casing. The driver may be configured to rotate the shaft and the propeller about a rotational axis of the shaft relative to the outer casing. One or more water-buoyant components, such as one or more sections of polymeric closed-cell foam, may be disposed around the outer casing. A flexible strap may be coupled to the outer casing. A first end portion of the flexible strap may be operable between a connected position and a towing position. The system may be a telescoping system operable between collapsed and extended positions along the rotational axis.

    • A marine propulsion system includes a gearbox housing that is attached to the stern of a vessel hull, a pivot casing that can pivot relative to the gearbox housing for trim/tilt and a lower unit that can pivot relative to the pivot casing to steer. The gearbox housing houses an input shaft, which is connected via a gear set to an intermediate shaft, which is connected via a bevel gear set to a transverse shaft, which extends into the pivot casing. Inside the pivot casing, a drive shaft is connected to the transverse shaft via a clutch assembly and the drive shaft extends from the pivot casing to the lower unit, where it drives a propeller shaft. The pivot casing pivots about the axis of the transverse shaft to trim/tilt and the lower unit pivots about the axis of the drive shaft to steer.

    • An outboard motor includes a lower casing provided below an upper casing, amounting plate provided above the upper casing, and an engine with a vertically-arranged crankshaft mounted on the mounting plate. The rotation of the crankshaft is transmitted to a drive shaft that is pivotally supported in the upper casing, changed in speed by a transmission mounted on the drive shaft, and transmitted to a propeller shaft that is pivotally supported in the lower casing. The outboard motor has upper mounts and lower mounts arranged to mount the outboard motor on a hull. The upper mounts are disposed on upper lateral surfaces of the upper casing, and the lower mounts are disposed on lower lateral surfaces of the upper casing. The outboard motor simplifies the upper casing for disposing a transmission therein and assembly and maintenance thereof.

The outboard portion of the stern drive is rotatable relative to the inboard portion, about a second axis transverse to the motor output drive axis, in raising/lowering/trimming directions.
