    • A fastening buckle for fastening a snorkel to swimming goggles includes a strip-holding member and a snorkel-holding member. The strip-holding member has a resiliently depressible hanging section and has an outer surface formed with an inclined plane. The snorkel-holding member has a gripping portion laterally formed with a socket for receiving the hanging section of the strip-holding member. The socket has an outer wall formed with a cut-away section for abutting against a bottom edge of the hanging section. The socket further has a resiliently depressible pressing button extending downward from a top thereof to hang over the cut-away section and abut against the inclined plane of the hanging section. When pressed, the pressing button presses the inclined plane to expel the hanging section downward from the cut-away section, allowing convenient disengagement between the snorkel-holding member and the strip-holding member.

    • A combination apparatus integrates the operation of a snorkel with a diving regulator having a breathing chamber and a diaphragm/purge valve chamber. A compressed air tank is in fluid communication with the diving regulator and a normally closed regulator valve is disposed between the compressed air tank and the diving regulator. A regulator valve spring maintains the regulator valve in the normally closed position. In a first embodiment, the regulator valve spring exerts about eight pounds per square inch on the normally closed regulator valve. Air enters into the breathing chamber from the compressed air tank through the diaphragm/purge valve chamber when the submerged diver inhales. The apparatus enables surface snorkeling and underwater diving and the diver need not switch from a snorkel mouthpiece to a diving regulator mouthpiece. Further embodiments re-locate the snorkel tube exhaust valve and add a two-position valve to the snorkel main tube.

    • The invention relates to a breathing aid for swimmers, having a mouthpiece (1) which has an exhalation valve, wherein, starting from the mouthpiece, a two-part air hose (9, 10) leads to a head part (2) which receives the respective hose ends of the two-part air hose. According to the invention, the head part (2) has a frame-like, resilient supporting surface (20) which, when used, rests against the back of the swimmer's head. Provided in the head part is a recess for an inhalation valve (7), wherein the recess having the inhalation valve is located opposite the supporting surface. Furthermore, in at least one of the air hoses there is an insert (8) for length adjustment, and the inhalation and exhalation valves are each embodied in the form of a flutter valve and are also preferably configured with identical structures.

    • The instant invention is a valve for the top end of diving snorkels having a conduit with an open end above the water surface, and an underwater end that terminates in a mouthpiece. The mouthpiece provides a flow path between the conduit and the interior of the diver's mouth. The conduit's above water opening is in-line with the conduit's longitudinal axis. The top valve consists of a soft diaphragm mounted on a compound linkage. The linkage is attached to the conduit adjacent the top opening. A float activates the valve linkage whenever the snorkel descends below the water surface. As the open end of snorkel moves underwater, the linkage moves the diaphragm against the top opening, thereby preventing water from entering. When the top of the snorkel is above the water surface, the linkage moves the diaphragm to the side of the conduit, out of the respiratory flow path.

    • An underwater breathing device, such as a snorkel, may include an exhalation valve. The exhalation valve is configured to produce positive end-expiratory pressure in the airway of a user of the underwater breathing device. The exhalation valve includes a plate defining an exhalation port and at least one chamber port, an exhalation conduit connected to the exhalation port, and a flexible membrane that is sealable against a surface of the plate. A lower portion of the exhalation conduit is divided by a septum which divides the exhalation conduit and the exhalation port into a first exhalation port connected to a first exhalation conduit and a second exhalation port connected to a second exhalation conduit. The flexible membrane is sized and positioned to be capable of sealing the first exhalation port and the second exhalation port.
