    • A dual spool retractor device for seat belts in a motor vehicle including a frame, two spools rotatably mounted to the frame, and a pretensioning system providing pretensioning rotation for both the spools. The spools are pretensioning through the activation of a micro-gas generator. The gas generator can provide gas to a single or a pair of gas cylinders. One or more flexible numbers such as a metal band or cable is used which is coupled to one or both spools via a pulley. Activation of the gas generator forces a piston to move in a manner which exerts tension on the flexible member(s) thereby unwinding the flexible member from the spool pulley and providing pretensioning rotation of the respective belt spool.

    • A system and method is provided to alert users if another user has entered within a prescribed geographic region selected by the user. According to a method embodiment, a method for communicating among a plurality of users over a wireless communication network using location based messaging comprises: receiving at a central server a location based message from a user, said message including prescribed geographic region information, extracting the prescribed geographic region information from the location based message at the central server; determining at the central server whether another user has entered a prescribed geographic region corresponding to said prescribed geographic information included in said location based message, and transmitting an alert message from the central server to the mobile device of the user sending said location based message, alerting the user that another user has entered the prescribed geographic region.

    • An apparatus (10) for helping to protect a vehicle occupant (12) includes first and second lengths of belt webbing (30, 32) for extending over the occupant. First and second spools (62, 80) are supported for rotation in a belt retraction direction (68) and an opposite belt withdrawal direction (70). The apparatus (10) includes a mechanism (90) for blocking rotation of the spools (62, 80) in the belt withdrawal direction (68) until a predetermined force is applied to the spools, and for permitting rotation of the spools in the belt withdrawal direction when a force above the predetermined force is applied to the spools. The mechanism (90) drivingly interconnects the spools and permits rotation of one of the spools (62, 80) in the belt withdrawal direction (70) after blocking rotation in the belt withdrawal direction without causing rotation of the other spool in the belt withdrawal direction.
