    • A melt distribution block for a co-extrusion die has a generally annular body with opposed front and rear faces and opposed inner and outer faces. Inlets at the outer face have channel ports for accepting flow of melted polymer into the distribution block. Flow controlling valves independently control the melted polymer flow through each of the channel ports. Melt flow channels on the front and rear faces between the inner and outer faces are in fluid communication with the channel ports. A thermal insulation layer within the distribution block between the front and rear faces separate all or part of the melt flow channels on the front face from all or part of the melt flow channels on the rear face. The blocks, together with separator blocks, are axially stackable front to rear around a central mandrel to form an extrusion die for making blown films into tubular form.

    • An apparatus for the extrusion a multi-layer parison comprises an extrusion blow molding head having a bore passing through the head with a diverter sleeve located within the bore. There is a first manifold in fluid communication with a first die inlet, the first manifold substantially surrounds the diverter sleeve and is in fluid communication with a proximal end of a flow path formed by the diverter sleeve and the bore; wherein the flow path extends from the proximal end to a head exit and a first land that has a variable width is positioned between the first manifold and the flow path. A second manifold is in fluid communication with a second die inlet, the second manifold substantially surrounds the diverter sleeve and is in fluid communication with the flow path at a first location downstream from the proximal end of the flow path; wherein the flow path has a width that increases at the first location; and a second land that has a variable width positioned between the second manifold and the flow path. The first manifold, the first land, the second manifold, and the second land are sized so that the flow of material through the flow path from proximal end to the head exit is substantially consistent to create a multi-layer flow of material to form the parison having a wall of a substantially similar cross section. The method includes introducing predefined volumes of polymer melt to the manifolds, passing the volume to the flow path and extruding the parison.

    • The present invention is a module used in a modular blown film co-extrusion die for extruding multi layer polymer materials in a tubular form. The module including an upper pancake section including an upper melt entry port and melt channels defined in one face thereof, wherein the melt channels communicating fluidly with the upper melt entry port and a lower pancake section including a lower melt entry port and melt channels defined in one face thereof, wherein the melt channels communicating fluidly with the lower melt entry port. The melt channels of the upper and lower pancake sections facing each other and separated by a divider plate, such that the upper pancake section together with one side of the divider plate defining a top melt path and the lower pancake section together with the other side of the divider plate defining a bottom melt path, wherein the top melt path producing a top melt layer and the bottom melt path producing a bottom melt layer.
