    • Disclosed, amongst other things, is a gate insert of an injection mold that includes a base member. The base member defines a nozzle interface for receiving, in use, a nozzle of a melt distribution system that is heated, in use, by a heater, and a gate, the gate configured to fluidly link, in use, a melt channel of the nozzle with a molding cavity. The gate insert further includes a thermal regulator associated with the base member, the thermal regulator includes a direct energy conversion device that is capable of heating and cooling, wherein the thermal regulator is controllably operable, in use, to control the temperature of the gate.

    • A bottom insert for a mold cavity for the production of moldings of plastic material. The mold cavity has a main body with a hot side which has a recess for receiving molten plastic material under pressure and a cold side having a recess, the inside contour of which is intended to come into contact with the molding to be produced and to shape the outside contour thereof. A gate (17) is provided that connects the recess of the hot side to the recess of the cold side and is intended to introduce molten plastic material from the hot side into the cold side. In accordance with the invention there is provided a device for thermal insulation within the bottom insert between the hot side and the cold side of the bottom insert to permit more rapid cooling of the cold side by restricting heat flow from the hot side.

    • An injection molding machine is provided, including a nozzle assembly having a channel for conveying a fluid. At least one cavity insert is removably mounted within a cavity plate, the at least one cavity insert defining a mold cavity, and a first portion of a gate for communicating the fluid between the nozzle assembly and the mold cavity. A gate insert defines a receptacle for the nozzle assembly, and further defining a second portion of the gate. The gate insert is floatably retained between the nozzle assembly and the at least one cavity insert. Preferably, the gate insert is retained by a gate insert plate that is disposed between the cavity plate and the nozzle assembly.

    • An injection molding apparatus is disclosed that includes a valve-gated nozzle having a nozzle tip assembly and a valve pin slidably disposed therein. The nozzle tip assembly includes a nozzle liner having a first valve pin guiding portion, a valve pin guide having a second valve pin guiding portion upstream of the first valve pin guiding portion, and a transfer seal having a bore for receiving the nozzle liner and the valve pin guide therein. The transfer seal bore includes an alignment surface that surrounds the nozzle liner and the valve pin guide to align the first and second valve pin guiding portions with the mold gate, such that the valve pin is accurately aligned during operation. The transfer seal also includes means to couple the nozzle tip assembly to the nozzle body.

    • An edge gated injection molding apparatus includes a manifold having a manifold channel for receiving a melt stream of moldable material under pressure. A nozzle is coupled to the manifold and a nozzle melt channel of the nozzle receives the melt stream from the manifold channel. A mold cavity communicates with the nozzle melt channel of the nozzle and receives melt through a mold gate. The mold gate is located at an edge of the mold cavity. A chamber receives melt from the nozzle channel and communicates with the mold cavity through the mold gate. A portion of the chamber is located forward of the mold gate. A valve pin is slidable through the nozzle channel from a first position in which the mold gate is open to a second position in which an outer side surface of the valve pin blocks the mold gate.
